SATURDAY MORNING, AUG, 23d,
UNPLEASANT AFFAIR.—Our citizens made
%ig eyes on hearing of a little affair that oc
-curred at Lamype’s bathing establishment on
Thursday. A man of fuwily went there to
‘bathe. Se did two young actresses. The
#itls.towk a reom; the maw ‘of family teok
thigh:Some sort of curiesity. prompted the
inan te peek over the partition. The girls
‘saw theface. A scream ensued. A young
and small Itahan in the empley of the es&ablishment ran in with all the impulsiveness
cand ardor of his race. He discovered what
‘shad been done aud, using épithets that might
have been figurative but were not so inten-dea, the young man from the land of the vine
and the olive got terribly ‘mauled. Married
unan paid yesterday morning a fine of $20 for
anauling the small Itaiian, but wae allowed
‘to go as w dead head to the show,
* ‘The facts as published go to prove that
the girls got inte a squablle and the married
‘mau merely intended to get in a position to
uet as peace inuker—that’s all.
Morat.—If young girls. will get into a
-row‘in a beth room let them not counterfeit
the voices of rough old masculines so perfeetly as to bring the heads of moral men
ubove the partitions.
Re-TURNED.—John I. Caldwell has returned ence’ more ta the loyal fold, as we .
~Tearn from his card in the Democrat of Thurs_ day. “Ivanhoe” gives six reasons for coming back to the Union Administration party.
First, and Seeond, Byrne the uoniiuce of
the Demaeratie Convention for County Judge
’ is a bolter: Third, Boring is a bolter; Fourth,
Thomas J. Pegg is a bolter.; Fifth Henry
Everett bas declined to run; Sixth,The secesh have endorsed J, c. Bein
Theo Democrat alleges that some of the given Teasons are net true. But that inakes no
difference. The retaining reasgns are eufficient fora sound constitutional lawyer to
govern himself by.
‘Circus Cominc.—Joa, Pentland’s great
Circus will perform sa this city on the 29th
inst. Tt is hardly necessary for us to add one
word of praise in favor of this excellent Circus troupe for they visited our city a -few
weeks ago and were received by the largest
crowd we have seen under a canvas. Sig.
Sebastian, the greatest rider living, is with
the company and this announcement alone is
sufficient to insure a large audience. Go
and see the show, everybody.
“ BiLoop, 1aGo, BLoop!""+-We propose
to expel the handsome editor of the Grass
Valley paper, from the county. He ought
to be banished to the county he came from,
for that “ Biood, Iago, Blood” article. We
learn the scene of the article was laid in Sietra, but the thing is so worded that a stranxer might be led to beheve the family newspaper inen--were. implicated, when euch an
idea is ridiculous. Come, come, Byrne, no
more such indefinite insinuations.
Tue travel through this city to Washoe ig
as brisk asever. Every day or two we notice two o¢ three’ teams, from Sacramento,
wending their way'to the Silver regions. —
A great many passengers go by way of North
San Juan. (ivess there is not much travel
by way of Placerville now, as teamsters
and passengers: have. found out that the
cheapest and best reute is by way of the
Henness Pass: Most of the “deadiails” on
the Placerville route will be closed up before
long, for want of patruns.
Doperep Us.—The little joker Milton
Shakespeare Lathram, spoke at Grass Valley on Thursday eveuing, but not liking the
climate of the county seat, dodged us. Well,
we have plenty of Union men im this city
and we can get along without the little fellow.
Rove & KeaDY ScHvoL.—The public
sehool at Rough &.Ready, under charge of,
D. M. Gow, Esq., will be opened again en
the first Monday of next month—Monday
week: Mr. Gow js an experienced teacher,
and Rough & Ready has the repute of employing only such. .
Metuopist Cuurcn.—The last quérterly meeting in this Conference year, will commence this evening at 8 o'clock. The Rev:
Mr. Benson will preach this evening, and alee
on Sunday at 11 a. M.and 8PM. Tho sactrament ~ will be administered after the morn}
ing service.
HoME AGAIN. —Afte: a short and pleasant
trip to the Bay, the editor of this paper has
returned and resymed his labors again. .
