Tue Savrtan Come.—His alligatorship
arrived yesterday in charge of his keepers and
went on exhibition. He is a pretty bird, and
has a remarkable open countenance when he
smiles. "Tis said he enjoys his meals, and
don’t much care whether his diet is pine
knots, cats or nigger babies, so he. onty has
enough. The old fellow complains of no
difficulty-in inflating ‘bis lungs at this eleva«

THE Puatns across.—A string of smutty
faced men, women and children, jin wagons
well “‘shuck” to pieces, passed through
‘town yesterday a little before noon, bound
for the lower lands of the State. A drove
of horses came along behind, looking not
much worse for the long journey.
DveL.— An affair of .bunor (7) is reported
in the Virginia Bulletin as: having been attempted in that place on Suturday last, between Goodman, editor of the Enterprize
and Tom Fitch of the Unien. They had
‘been telling a few unwholesome things
himself even, and eo challenged his brother
editor. The meeting teok place in some
obscure canon, but exerybody knew about
“it and the ‘officers had only to march out

and nip the belligerents. The Bulletin don't
report any indignation concerning the arbitrary arrest, like. that professed by cop~

Forty or fifty persous were poisoned by
