Secesu Currexcy.—The proprietor of
this paper has just reecived a specimen of seeesh currency, whieh is @ real curiosity. It
is a due bill of the “Corporation of Cheraw,”
South Carolina, for “fifteen cents payable in
South Carolina Bank notes to beater on presentation of these due bills in sume of five
dollars.” Signed D. E. Pope, Com; E. Mill_ 8, Presi
paper and embellished with tolerable woodcuts. There is a picture of a railread in the
center. At the left is a huge arm and hammer aboutto strike, over which is a scroll for
the number of the bill, but it is not aumbered. At the right is “15” with “South” on
“one side, “Carolina” un another, “and “Cheraw, Aug. 2, 1861, under. Below is a hive
of bees, wld style. The back of the bill. is
ornamented with the Confederate Flag, and
the motte “New, or never !”
Cheraw is located at the head of steam navigation on the Great Pedee river and is connected with Charleston by railroad, and also
with Wilmington. It ix one of the most important cotton marts of the interior of the
