. FRIDAY MORNING FEB, Gth.
ArnivaL oF Burke.—Sheriff Knowlton .
‘ gnd James Remington ‘arrived last night
about 7 o'clock, having Thomas Burke in}
charge. The following are the particulars
*¢ the capture: Sheriff Gooding obtained
information that Burke was at Gassaway's
ranch, 24 miles from Auburn, on the Illinoistown road. They went out on Tuesday
night ond made a descent upon the hons*.—
A room was fastened which they demanded
shotild be opened. When they entered, the,
candle was struck and extinguished: by Burke
who then 1mmediately commenced firing.—
He wae seized and thrown upon the floor —
The shuts fired by ‘Burke did no damage.—
On the prisoner’s arrival in Nevada he was
taken into the jail, when the crowd which
had followed the-strge cheered as though an
untsimed tiger had been caged. He was.
thoroughly searched by the officers and so .
_secured that escape is impossible.
