aa j Hevaila Daily Transtript. . Wovada County Official Prets. ————— SUNDAY MORNING, FEB. 8th. Tue Usion Party:~The members of the Union Party whb-ate now at Sacramen_ to, have tts destiny in theirhands. They are Yo deterniine whether in the coming cam spdign’t hall stand forth with giant strength to ertsh all that would oppose the Union eause, of whether it «shall be vitisted and weakened by the corruptions which ‘they, the representatives of the people, shall in’ fuse into its organism. It is a duty they owe to the peuple to see that ali who would control the party by corrupt means should be . discountenanced. We think we can’ with. reason say, that the Legislature will come up to the fulldemand of the times. The attempts to gain position by bribery have been exposed and held up to the public seorn.— These damhable’crimes, which under the old _. regime of Gwin & Co, would have remain“ed forever hid_from the public gaze, have pow deen unveiled, and the men who suffer-— ed their interests to prompt them to such deeds, ostracised. The-teaders of the. party have done well thus far; let the puritying process be continued, and the party will be a unit next fall. Let it not have the sins of -political wire-workers and tricksters upon its head, and the people when called upon to give their sufferagy te its candidates will wake the ballot-box speak insuch tones as will cheer and strengthen the friends of the ~ Union everywhere. * Tne STrAMen.—A telegram from New York saya tlé,Atlantic steamer Ocean Queen was delayed on the trip to Aspinwall by a severe storm. Consequently the Constitution ig not due at San Franciseo unt. to-dzy. ——— ao Tue Caucus.—On Friday night the cauctis met and took a number of ballots with out affecting anything. They. are now to all appearances as far fram 8 nomination as when . the first vote was cast. The only favorable sign is the fact that the members do not ap: -pear-tohold so firmly to their favorites. On “hear him make «speech and honor his return. Tut News.—We obtain the following stinevary of news from the Democrat of test evening: The Richmond papers give acton, substantiating (esate a Those already telegraphed, with the followihg additional.-The Secretary of State notified the British and French Consuls of the official information received, and was.ef the opinion that the blockade bad been raised. The editor of the Dispatch says thata vessel was dispatebed to Nassau to notify the authorities there of the fact, and is of opinion that after such netice the blockade cannot be renewed for sixty days. CP The Marysville Express, 2 few days ago, gave a long account of the reception of Dr. -E. D, Olds, atColumbus, Ohio, on his return from Fort Lafayette, on which. oecasion. ten ‘‘thousand persons” turned out to The following isa dispatch from Columbus, to the Cincinnati Times: Dr Olds, with the great promised procession, -has just arrised. It comrises about two dozen ill-looking ‘‘butter<sits,” all told. ~These make up the grand escort. They are now drawn up oo High atreet, and look as though they are ashamed “of theewhole affair. : AT a ballin Gold Hill, Nevada Territory, some fellow stole the hat of the “local items” . of the Territorial Enterprise, whereat the indignant individwal sympathizes with the thief in the following strain:. “We have béen suffering with the seven years itch for many months. It is probably the most ag. gravating disease in the world. It is contagious. The man has commenced a ‘career of suffering which is frightful to contemplate; . there is no eure for the distemper—it mnnst run its course: there is no respite “for its victim, and but little alleviation of itg.torments to be hoped. for; the unfortunate’s only resource is to bathe in sulpher and molasses, and let bis finger nails grow. Further advice is unnecessary—instinet will prompt him to serateh:” INDIANS.—The Winter being oppressive, says the Red Bluff Beacon, the Indians have begun depredations upon the farms of the settlers. We are informed by Mr. Jones, late teacher in the public school who has the’ third ballot Sargent had 41. .Conness 30, Phelps 23, Brown 12, Shafter 4 and T. 8. King 1. Sargent 27, Phelps 20, Brown 9 and Shafter 8. The caucus adjourned to last night. Prisonex Suor.—A few days since, a ' prisoner named Spencer, ‘cunfined in the jail ” at Martinez, finding the door open, rushed by the jailor into the street. The jailor, TYiton, went in pursuit, but discovering that Spencer was gaining in the race, fired three times, one shot hitting Spencer in the back, and brought him tu. The wound is not danerous. ® Loss “or a Scorcu STEAMER. — The ateamer Waldensian, empleyed in the mail service between Cape Town and Natal, ‘struck on Strury’s Reef on-the night of the 13th of October, and all attempts to get her off proved ineffextual: The whole of the valuable cargo was lost: The Christy's . Minstrels were among the prssengers, and lost all their’inatruments and dresses; Joe Brown, the dancer, losing besides the prize belt, a censiderable sum in specie. There wason board twenty clergymen of the Dutch Reform Church on their way to Capa Town to attend the Synod An Expensive TuNNeL.—The Eureka Tunnel, Butte county, has just been finish: ed. It ia 2,000feat tong, alt-the way cut thorugh solid rock, and. has bern constantly prosecuted for the last seven years. San Jose RatLtRoav.—The total cost of _* the work done on this roid up to February Jet, 1863, was $755,818 40. The Board of . _ Directors of the company have mad a call on the Supervisors of San Francisco county. for their first-assessment of 10 per cent. Itis well to denounce the murders Cemmitted by Union men, no matter what the provocation ; but the editors who denounce these murders without having a werd to say about the utterly unprovoked and ten times ag numerous murders committed by the reb« _ ls, have no business to be publishing papers = side of the rebel lines. — Louisville Jouree The above is from the Appenl which was evidently intended for the notice of its néighbor, the Ezpregs. es On the last vote Connessa had 35, coming down this way, on Monday last, he meta company of three men in pursuit of Indians, Who had stolen, oa Sunday night, two horses, a cow and some potatoes from . _Geo. Dersech, living on the: ranch of Dr. Baker, about twénty five miles frow. this place on Bear river. The Indians had been tracked as far as the Shingletown road, which they had left for the Battle creek region. There were eight Indians, as judged from the tracks,-and, as we have said, only three men in pursuit. The latter, however,-were superiorly armed, and would win in a fight unlesa surprised by an ambush or. a sudden reinforcement of Indians.
