Jas. J. OrT & Co.’s ASSAYING EsTapLISHMENT.—This useful-and well known es‘tablishment, which, heretofore, had confined
its operations tothe assaying of ores and the
melting of gold or amalgam, into bairs,. has
-machinery, whieh: enables the’proprietors to
reduce; in twelve hours, half a ton of ore of
any kind, black sand, tailings, pannings, or
-no matter what which may be supposed to
contain ‘precious metals. Their mode of collecting the gold differs from. the ordinary
quartz. mill process Of amalgamation in this,
with it a dilution of acid, proto-nitrate or:salt
of mercury, proto-sulpliate ef iron, or a]
heated solution of carbonate of soda, as the
case may require, which prepares it to re“
ceive the influence. of a galvanic battery,
thereby precipitating all the minute and invisible particles of gold. It is obvious that
this is a Vast improvement’ on’ the ordinary.
