. Joy fidd vent on extraordinary occasinns, well: t . Pity w rt * * e e. ty ihe + es ee tes Sone vietie a re r . . 3 { % re: res ad Reval Baily Branscript City and County Official Press RL eo SATURDAY MORNING. JULY 11th perhend. Downey. Democrats are. intensly for the Union,. and rejoice with exceeding great joy whenever the armies of the Republic are vigtorions ‘over the enemies of free Govern‘ment, is plain. Their Unionism and patriotic subdued as their feelings may be af other ‘ timés. ; It is not trom some appearances that the copperhead Downey Demuecrats are to, be judged. The true intentand meaning of that political organization breaks out sometimes in spite of all dissembling, and reveal the -¢haracter of its components: . And we need not go far away to discover the an'mus which controls that party, Thus, # good Downey . Democrat spiked the Gress Valley cannon thie other day to prevent it froin speaking the joy of a-community on hearing of the fall of the hands of the true Government, The triumphs of our soldiers in Pennsylvania and at Vickaburg are no. party triumphs. They are glorious deeds to be recorded in Ameriean history, and which every patriot might rejoice to hear. Our great nation has wen victaries which go far towurds insuring her stability, br nationslty. ~ What man having the spark of manhood in him, whose hear ig not. treacherous and desperately wicked, who is proud of the work our fathers did in reVolutionary days, who,has the sual to coms prehend the mission-of the American Goverament, ‘would not rejoice on. sueh ocentone fis these, when the news comes on light$a ning wings that. the Missiseippi ia sure to be ‘oura fromsource to mouth, and that-the ens 3 ‘aiuies of the great government are-diaceme fited and overthrown? A representative of the Downey party at Grass Valley, has no such glorious feelings,. in actuated by no euch noble sentiments.— His patriotic impufere impel him to spike cannon that the people may not rejoice that the days ofthe Republic are not to be numbeted. Fle has no kindly regards for the country, his sympathies ere for the eutthroats, horse-thieves and villiang of other sorte, who inaugurated und sustein the most unprovoked, dastardly and damnable war that, ever fuuled the annals of time, and that too against a government peerless in its aims and tranacendent in ita glory? The copperheads are for war. Yes, but with spiked cannon on our side. They are for along array of bayonets. on,our side of Mason and Dixon's Line, but they must be loose in their sockets or with broken polnts if we cross. They are for letting ~ Jaoae every patrivt in the North to repel the rebellious dogs, but not till the froate of winx ter have frozen fast the stones aid clubs. They are for interminable war, and would cripple the stronger party that it may be in‘ ‘terminable. Such would appear in one phage -to be their platform. But the Downey Democ racy are fur peace, peace on any terme however disgraceful or dishonorable. Their syapathies are for Jeff. Davis and their other fellow Democrats in the South. They look upon this war, a8 nothing but a war between Demoorats and Repubheana and they epike einnon to prevent rejoicing over their defeat. m pthcdeecigdieiecssieSeeers -—QCOPPERHEA p-SECESSION TICKET.—The mulatto State convertion adjourned at a late hour on Thursday night completing ‘tacir work in darkaves.
