SHOOTrING.—Our devil was stattled from
his slumbers at a late hour on Saturday night
last, by the report of a pistol which sounded
as if the firing had taken place towards the
lower end ot Commercial street. He must
have been dreaming about fighting, himself,
for he woke up, at the report, shouting murder in so lusty a manner as to wake the
whole house and raise a\general uproar. ' We
did not learn the cause of the shooting.
te Mr. S. Furrn, of the firm of Block
& Co., of this city, returned to our city, a
fow—days—age,—efter-an absence of several
months, spent in San Francisco. He will be
welcomed back by his numerous friends and
patrons Mr E. Block, Jr., leaves on the
steamer of the 2I1st.
TREASURE FROM THE INTERIOR.—Up to
this date the present year the amount of
treasure receivedifrom the” Northern mines
has been $16,697,569. of which $15,027,516
was uncoined, and $1,670,073 coined. From
the Southern mines the amount received has
been $4,704,168, of which $3,633,006 has
been uncoitied and $1,071,163 eeined. The .
whileamount received fram both sources has
heen $21,401,759 The-receipts for the
same period in 1859 were $23,522,066; ‘in
1860 $23, 819, 233.
te The Columbus Fact, in its account of
the Perry celebration in Cleveland, says that
“the procession was very fine, and nearly
two miles in length, as was also the prayer
of Dr. Perry, .the chaplain.”
SECEssIon FLaG.—A gentleman residing
on Sansome street has,, among other decorations of his apartment, a Secession flag,
which he keeps more as @ euriosity than
anything else. On the Fourth a number of
lady acquaintances took advantage of the
elegibility of his location to invade ‘his bachelor quarters, and as the troops were in line,
one of them in ignorance seized the flag and
waved it from the window! The gentleman
detected the action, and breathless with ap
prehension, he snatched it from the fair hand,
assuring her that such an exhibition on such
an oceasion migbt result in bleod-shed.The
action luckily escaped the sight of the peoplé
on the street.—S. I. Call.
te A lady .on separating from her husband, changed her religion, beingsdetermined,
she said, to-avoid his company in this world
and the next too.
tay" An old Connecticut pastor, whose peculiarities of preaching were proverbial, and
who was blest with-a temper of great: value,
was one day told by a parishioner, that he
did not like his sermons. ‘ Well,”’ said the
old man, ‘I don’t wonder at it; I don’t like
‘em myself.”

‘BuRNED TO DEaTH.—A young lady named Lione Wilson, residing at Mark West
Creek, Sonoma county, was burned to death
on the afternoon of Tuesday, the 19th inst.—

‘age was about twenty, years, and she was:
very highly esteemed.

Not: DISBANDED.—Col. Lippitt, of the

was to be disbanded. The Colonel -says:—
“We still expect an acceptance by every
