A committee, was appointed to confer with the managers of the Association and induce them, if possible, to add chess tables to the . other attractions of the Library. The mans agers and committee met en Monday after~ noon,-and agreed as followa: That if a sufficient number of new members would join the Library Association they (the managers) would apply the initiation . fees paid in, in purchasing chess tables and men, putting up gas fixtures and carpeting the room. : Parties desiring to join will do well to leave their names with J. M. Levey, Secretary of the Library Asso¢iation.: t"The. partoership heretofore existing between Messrs. Black & Hughes, in the steam pianing mill and sash and door factotory. has ‘been dissolved by mutual consent, Mr. Black selling out and Mr. Hughes be« coming sole proprietor. -. Fire.—A fire broke out in the Chinese arondisement on Commercial street at one o'clock on Tuesday (yesterday) morning, . which scorched one building considerably.— The Chinese were on hand and worked like g00d fellows to put out the flames, and they succeeded gu well that before the firemen got . On the ground the fire was squelched, which, when we take into consideration the nimbleness of the Nevada firemen, is saying a great dealfor Chinamen. The damage. was slight. 2 TremM.—When the fire broke out the oths er night it was observed ‘that while the Americans aniversally cried “fire.” the Chinese. sung.out “water,” or “shooey.” The Call of the Celestials was for just what was wanted, and appropriate. fea RoBBeED.—Tommy Turner opens business with a symptom of bad luck.
