~ OME MATTERS.
PERSONAL. —We ‘ta the pleasure, yesterday, of making the acquaintance of E. Bu
RoustT, Esq:, the accomplished editer of the
Dutch Flat Enquirer, who honored our sancfim with @ brief call. Mr. Boust is a Virginian.
—a genuine son of the Old Dominion—who
graduated, in the art typographique, under
the auspices of Father Ritchie, in the Richmond Enguirer. Ot course,he is a gentleman
and_a patriot,.of whieh, by his conversation
and his editorial pen, ie gives constant proof,
in his unswerving devotion to the Americ an

-home from Washoe. Mr. McLaughlin left
Grass Valley some ten days “ago, in a twohorse buggy, for Virginia City, through the
Placerville route. He/says the road was
lined with freight teams. On his return, in
company with Mr. Dorsey, he took the Henness Pass, and met a large number of teams
on this road also. They both speak in enthusiastic terms of the road and the scenery
on the Henness Pass, as well they may, for
we do net believe that a more enchanting
landscape can be seen than this al aad of

Cuinese Row. —Officer Knerr yesterday
arrested a’couple of Chinamen, as they were
in the act of fighting in.a house on Cotmmercial street. One of them haa a knife, and
uppeared bent on cutting his opponent into
sausagé meat. On their being arrested’ Mrs.
Janin-Tzoi, the wife of the knife wielding
Celestial, rushed frautieally in, and though
uot over three feet high, made so much noise,
that the officer had to lug her along with the
two Chinamen betore the Magistrate. With.
her wrapper of glazed brown holland, had
she not kept her tongue in constant motion,
she might have passed for a wrapped up umbrella, the handle of whicti was ornamented
with a carving, representing a young squash.
After hearing the testimony, Justice Kendall
fined the whole party $6 a piece, or a residence of three days in the calaboose. The
other Chinuman torkéd over his fine, but Mr.
and Mra. Ianin-Tzoi declared they would take
the calabuose. On their way there, however,
they weakened, and were allowed to furnish
security for the amount of their fine.

United States have attained on equal celebtity with Dr. Bassett. © g in the
business in its infaney, he has moved ‘step by
step until he has reached the highest honors.
Raised from a lad amidst horses, and having
passed all his life as a trainer of domesticated
animals, he has rendered his name as familiar as household words Below we give
your readers a partial description of the
performers and their exploits, of fhe troupe
with Dr. Bassett’s circus, as Sen by an
eye witness :
The Aymar family — first among them
stands W. B. Aymar, the star equestrian. It
is almost. impossible to clothe in phraseology
ll that Mr. Aymar accémplishes ‘wpon hishorse without‘any other support than such
as nature gave him. In one of his perfurmances he jumps his horse over bars and gates,
while at the same time she-~carries ~ bis tittle
daughter, Lotta, (the juvenile prodigy, aged
but three years) in every possible attitude
In the greatest of all of Mr. Aymar’s efforts—
in leaping overa five barred gate, upon. his
horse’s back—he not only-maintuins his erect
attitude upon the animal, but carries little
Lotta, who stands on his head and preserves
her balance during the terrific leap.
William Aymar, the performing clown:
It is an oldadage, and nothing has been more
truly said, than it “ takes a wise man to make
a fool ;’’ but there is a wide difference between professional fools and a fool by profession. Trained early to the profession he
combines with the exercise of his wit, a perfection in acrobatic skill, which has won
for him the plaudits of the public and the utiversal commendation of the press, in Europe
and in the United States. Hé is perfectly at
home in all the tumbling and vaulting, ia fact,
as a vaulter he takes rank among the first in
the world, and hie daring and &kill —_universal admiration.
Mrs. W. KB. Aymar, as an ascensionist,
stands unriyaled by any in the world, and no
lady in California has ever attempted to imitate the opposite sex in riding bare-back
horses. We might with propriety term this
lady the only bare-back rider, as it has been
fully proven that the renowned Zogara is but
a mitt in ladies’ attire.
Little Lotta Aymar is undoubtedly the
prodigy of tbe ring, being the youngest and
most wonderful of female equestriens, daring almost beyond. her-years, and in juvenile
grace and activity without an equal. She is
emphatically a Califorma rider and makes
her debut this season.
Jerry Blossom, the Shakspearean Clown,
for originality, quaint humor, quick repartee
and pungent satire, is without a rival in the
United States. His sarcastic efforts are al
ways well timed and his shafts of wit—at
the expense of fashionable vices and follies—
never miss their mark
Messrs. Painter and Durand in their multiform actsof gymuastic and acrobatic skill
cannot be excelled in any conntry in the
world, all those who have seen thein wil!
candidly admit this their Trapez L’ Echelle
Pertleuse, and eerial rings cannot be surpassed by any, and then there are the Italian
Brothers, whose performances differ essentially from the usual acrobatic efforts, it 1s
wholly different from anything ever before
attempted and excites the equal admiration
and wonder of the spectator. Mr. Reese
also, and Master George both from the Atlantic circuses, stand bigh in their respe @ ive
roles, together with a host of less brilliant
characters.
This excellent company will perform in
Nevada this evening and we feel assured
they’ will attract a large audience *
