She was on a visit to them on Sunday even. ‘ing, and while Mrs. Blaka was out of the room, she secreted about-$150 to $200 00 -worth of articles about her person. ‘The articles were not missed until early Monday morving, when Mr. Blaka suspected Mrs. Kempton, and had a warrant issued for her . . arrest, and Constable W. M. Stephenson was sent.to the residence of Mr. Kempton, where he arrested and searched her, in the presence of her husband, and found all the articles sereted about her person. He brought her to the office of Justice E. W. Roberts, where an examination took place, and she was committed to answer before the Court of Sessions. She was taken to jajl on Monday evening. Her husband is a hard working man, and feels:very bad over his wife’s weakwho was arrested some eight or ten months ago for arson, in setting fire to her house, right behind the Exchange Hotel, but was acquitted on her trial before the Court of Sessions. She.is the mother of one child, about two years old, with the prospect of being the mother of another, in the course of two or three months. Her age is aout 21 caused by hard drinking, taking drugs, &e: Bishop Kip” pr-ached here on Sunday: morning and evening, to large congregations In the evening the rite of confirmation was administered to three young ladies and three young” gentlemen of Grass Valley. Improvement—The work of improvement goes bravely on. There is now six fire proof . brick stores going up here, and. one or twu mere would commence if brick and masons were to be had. Our young friend; Gavin Gibb, is putting up a large fire-proof brick dil and paint store, where he intends keeping the largest and finest stock of goods in the mountains. He goes below in a few days “Qld Block will be ready to occupy his new bank in about a week or ten days. The Flag Staff, it is expected, will “be ready to be raised in about a week. It will be the finest staff and flag in the State. — T. Starr King lectured here last night to a fall house. Business is lively, money abundant, fights, within the past few days, scarce. THe Nevapa VoLUNTEERS.—As appears by an advertisement in this morning’s TRANSCRIPT, the 28th of June has been set for the organization of the company raised by Mr. H. A. Greene in thi county. By law, ten days notice is réquited ofthe election for Officers, after & gompany has enrolled the legal minimum number. The Nevada company now numbers about sixty and is fast increasing. , SLUICE RoBBER PUNISHED —A couple of Chinamen were oo day before yesterday, prowling about the sliilve boxes in the claims of Messrs. Heakin & Arbergast, near Cayotteville. Finding themselves ob served, they scampered off at a pace which defied pursuit.
