HOME MATTERS.
Patriotic Fire PLue.—Our citizens are
so intensely patriotic, that they are not content with having the stars and stripes floating
from the tepa of buildings, mast-heads, balconies and windows, but the cherished symbol must also be carried in their bosoms in
the shape of watch guards, cravats, &c. Mr.
Harrington, however, has struck a new idea,
in-having the fire plug-recently placed in front
of his saloon painted with the national colors
of red, white and blue, not omitting oie of
the thirty-four stars. The plug, thus decorated, is quite an ornament to the-eerner.
“TRAVEL TO. MARYSVILLE.—McCue's opposition line to Marysville has had the effect
te draw-all the travel from the Auburn_line
to Marysville. Three stages came id town,
yesterday, from the latter, place, all loaded
with passengers. This is the thatural. consequence of the low fare on that road, there
being a difference of $5 75 in favor of MeCue’s line over the Auburn road line, in the
travel to Sacramento. Quite an item in
these hard times.
The: opposition leaves this morning for
Marysville
{3 The Céhfornia Stage Company are
building a stable, about a quarter of a mile
below Rough and Ready, which, when completed, will be one of the largest institutions
of the kind in this section of country. Heretofore, the stages of the company have been
changing horses at Rough and Ready. This
move, we imagine, is not very acceptable to
the folks of Rough and Ready.

PeRSONAL.—We had the pleasure of meeting the Hon. Thomas Findley, last evening,
Avho is on brief visit to his home and his thousands of friends in Nevada county. Mr.
Findley, who is the best State Treasurer
California ever had—indeed, we might say,
the only good one—seems not at all prostrated by the pressure ofhis efficial duties, but,
on the contrary appears to be in the best of
health and spirits. He will return to Sacramento some time next week.
ERECTION OF A POLE ON Main STREET.
Nevada Hose Company No. 1 will erect their
pole, in front of the engine house, in the
course of to-day. Their flag will float from
it ag soon as the staff is erected.
The patriotic fulks of Piety Hill will also
have a flag raised in a few days.
CouNTY CouRT.—June 20th.—Head vs.
Moyes. Judgment rendered in tavor of plainuff for $15 75
Holmes vs. Van Hagen. Tried and subm.tted.
LocoMoTivEs.—The four locomotives
purchased by C. L. Wilson for the California Central Railroad have been named the
(arabaldi, Sam Brannan, Harry Wilson and
Lincoln. They will all be ready for use in a
few days.
OLD AND YounG.—Every body, at a certain age, 1s apt to think that there is nothing
like what was in use, or practice, ‘‘ in our
day.” This js an amiability, which should
nat weakly degenerate into a timid conservatiem opposed to all improvement. Adam
and Eve probably thought the same, and yet
their posterity have nade # few improvments
since Eden. The moral of this is, while the
counsels of old people should not be trodden
ander foot by the eager haste of youth,
ueither should the mature in age barricade
every diverging path of adventure, because
their feet never walked in it.
