ce A correspondent writing to. the Oregonian from Southern Oregon, says :
While in Jacksonville I saw’ two flags .
raised—the glorions. old Stars and Stripe
and the Palmetto’ and Rattleshake flag.
About the Palmetto flag-staf? there were a
few staggering drunken men, who were,
hardl{ sensible of what they were about,
und whe were put to do what thep did by
others who were insthe shade; while the
flag-staff of the Unien was surrounded by a
large crowd of iutelligent and well-appearing citizens, add-a goodly number of ladies.
The ladies raised the flag, and as it spread
to the breeze, there «went up such a shout
as never-was before heard in Southern Oregon. Unionis the strong prevailing sentiment here. There are bnt few Lancites
who would glory in the downfall fall of this
great Republic.
