State. ods, ught ind ¥iDe giv: lat, by IN, ly 3. Ve ¥ trerWe have been inlormed that a quartz ers of the several mills in this city and vicinity, may be heard night and day, without’ ire} “make it pay well, while nine-tenths turn out: aa stamping ground. ‘ miles oa each side. , Lang Syne claims, Sierra District, Hum‘ erat of the Butler sort, and we wish him a ~-—““No Canps.”"—These words appended to _fthe cards. A bint on this head is sufficient. . PRIDAY MORNING 4UNE 26th “TPT here scems to be more activity in the quartz line than we have ever known before. Every old wagon, mule, ox and horse ts brought into requisition for the purpose of hauling quartz to the various mills to be erushed. The busy clanking of the stamp~ termission. All we want is good, able-bodied men who are willing to’ work and stick to the mines around us. Minera generally commence developing the: leads and then some humbug report ofa rich strike sets thein eryzy, aitd off they go. Some of them. as rr as a church mouse. Stick to the ledge has been discovered near, Bowman's Raneh. in:the upper part of this ecunty. of immenseWidth. Specimens of the rock have. been brought to this city, which show it to be fabulously rich, layers of gold being inter} spersed through the reck. The quartz is of a pink or light reddish color. One company have located thirty-six claims on the ledge, . and the extension has been taken up for. Coprer.—According to the Grass Valley National, the copper excitement cuntinues unabated in the lower part of the county. In the vicinity of the Keystone Rinch. diss coveries have-reeently been made by David Brown and others that exhibit excellent indications. Quite a number of claims have heen located, and miners are busy at work developing the new leads. A new mining district, which will doubtless be called the Keystone, is soon to be formed. A Lucky Miner.—Charley Jones, of Grass Valley, has recently sold one-twelfth interest, of three hundred feet, in the Auld boldt, for $35,000, to Donald Davidson &Co.,of San Francisco. Charley being “hard up” concluded to go prospecting a few months since: struck it rich. and is now a wealthy man. SN esis. Momps.—The juvenile portion of the community at Grass Valley are generally afflicted with the mumps. None of the cases are reported as dangerons, but all of them exceedingly annoying and uncomfortable. — ‘We would suggest saffron and bean poulticing as excellent remedies. , Tue Fourtu.—The subscription papers in circulation to obtain money with which to celebrate the 4th, are getting well filled. — One alone has over seven hundred dollars on it. Ifanorator can only be obtained there willbe a grand, old fashioned blow-out in this city on the coming anniversary of the mation’s independence. C#"The alarm of fire yesterday afternoon was caused by the turning of Mr. Cassin’s residence on West Broad street. The fire department was on hand but the flames were subdued with a garden hose, before much damage was done. i Goming.—We are surry to say our friend George W. Yant, Esq., bas suld out and is ‘going East right off. Yant is a bully Demo~ place in old cockseye's cabinet. SociaL BaLi.—Mre. Adaws, of the New York hotel, will give a Social Party at the Hook and Ladder House, on Friday evening, July 3d. Everything will be dune to make the evening a pleasant one, and everybody is invited to attend. ‘ = [2"L. L. Mi ee E@’The item published in the Trans~ CRIPT a few days ago, stating that J. W. Coffruth was to deliver a Fourth of July oration in Grass Valley, is incorrect. No such arrangement has been made. N cra grand ball is to come off in Grass Valley, on Friday evening, July 3d.
