BroupTuirsty Preorpie.—*‘ This extra is a reguiar humbug!” “This pony brings no news!” “ No fighting yet!” and such like expressions are to be heard from many people en reading the extras we have lately is. sued on the arrival of the pony. It would seem) as: if ‘nothing short of the record of a half dozen battles, or at least the sacking and burning of one or more southern cifies could. satisfy the craving for blood of these patriots. ‘One individual who, if he were thrust in the ranks, would probably shoot his _ gan atthe first discharge, in guch a way as. tomake it more disagreeable to the olfacteries of his neighbors than dangerous to the enemy, weut so fur, in the expression of his disappointment, as to comprise fhe TRANSCRIPT in his curses for issuing an extra which did not contain the record, of apy. battle. People who are so fond of hearing of” other folks fighting, are seldom fond of doing much of’it themselves, and if we had the power of compulsion, we are confident that ne greater’punishment could be inflicted on thia class of yelpers than to. foree them in the front of the first battle. The news of bloodshed will reach us soon enough, God’ knows! and as to extras being issued, when there is no fight to record, all we have to say is, that op the arrival of the pony’s dispatch we are besieged by an anxious crowd, whose importanities we ean only get rid of by the . issuing of an extra, and if you have to pay two bits for the said extra, even when it don’t containthe account of any fighting, it’s only because the telegraph man charges just as muéh for s certain aumber of words, reeording the &ath of a mule, as he would for the same nunber of words recording the Rica Dinr.—$143 50 were washed from one pan of drt in the claims of Messrs. CueaP TRAVELING.—Jas. McCue has, at the first conch, a first rate one, having comunder ‘the guidance of that king’ of whips and clever drivers, George pte The fare by this line is put down as low aa it is possible for a line to take passengers and live, and we therefore hope that the traveling. public will not be lured away by any momentary reduction of prices tu below a living figure, by any other concern, and thus help crushing at thodérate prices.’ A man can, now, thanks to the enterprise of Capt. Kidd, Jas. McCue, and Mr. Jefiries, of Orleans Flat, go trom the latter place to San Francisco for $8, whereas, could not be pertorined for less-than. $21— making a difference of $26 for the voyage from Orleans Flat to San Francisco and back. This difference can be maintained if the people have the goed sense ty patronize those reason#ble rates-of travel. > “ STEAMER NiVaba.—The -damage done, steamer is entirely repaired,,. and she will be put to her work again by Monday at the latest. When the river is low, and this will huppen now. in a short time, the Nevada will make her rivals sick of their attempts to beat her. Crear CatTLe.—A yoke of oxen, in passable condition, were sold at auction, yesterday, by Mr. Gosling, for the sum of $40. Taking into consideration the fact that we enter the season when feed is cheap, we think the animals were sold very low. Divorce GRANTED.—In the case of Sarah was entered by the court granting the prayer of the plaintiff. We understand that the decision is to be appealed from. te Frank Alverton continues to drive Lew Morrill’s six horse stage at a rattling gait. He left Washington yesterday morning at a quarter before 7 o’clock, and reached Nevada at a quarter before 10 o’clock. Every thing that bucks against Frank will have to weaken sooner or later. STRAWBERRY FestivaL.—The ladies of the Congregational Church, Nevads, will give a Strawberry Festival, at the room of the Protection Hoek and Ladder Co., on Thursday evening next, 6th, inst.
