oore idea Nes, . pas. and tire nin said e to 'y to Ourt pril M., arch cio auc t the \ SF — Aevada Daily Beanseript . ” é Know ledge 4 yd ga FRIDAY MORNING, MARCH 14th Ce" We frequently hear. gentlemen who congregate here from various parts of the county epeak of the mining district of North San Juan in the most favorable manner and commend the energy and enterprise of its.miners as superior to any other mining district. in this portion of the State. Now if this is the case we catinat unders and why it is en unless there is a great utility found in the use of the various inventions and improvements originating from citizens of that enterprising little town in the past few years, Among. the various improve ments that we fr equently heard favorably mentioned is “Smith's Water Distributor.” “ Denning’s. Under. Current Sluiees * “ Winham’s and’ ethers’ Pateat Hose Couplings,” allof which seem to be in general use by the miners in that viewity, and while we cheerfully concede: (and take pleasure in-¢0 doing) the value of the mines inthe vicinity of that neat and enterprising town, we are unwilling tu’ ac knowledge that it is the only place’ within ou? county where the same improvements cannot be i ins troduced and used to equal advantage, and we have frequently thought that those in< terested in mining would grently advance their own interests as well aa those of the county and State, were asemi-annual eonvention of miners held within the borders of the county. : where a free interchange of in connection with this subj yect Will not seme of ‘aur citizens engaged in mining’ take the pretimivary, and Wt each Mining District send delegates to a Miners’ Cougty Convention, to be held at some des ignated place withia the county. Such a convention would be both interesting and instructive and would be beneficial in ite renults. Wry is tr so? 1While Lokalitume wae . it ithe District Court yesverday, a Jury was emparneled to try a ease. When the plaintiff's attarney was about te open the case, the at« tention of the Court was. arrested by the voiees of twp of the Jarymen, asking at the sume time Be excused from serving upon that‘Jury. One of them rising from his: seat, stated thaf he could not serve under the cireumetahe ee; that while he entertained the most praviound respect for the Court, yet before serving: as a juror under the circumstances, he would submit to any punishment the Court was pleased to inflict upon him, stating that the Court was aware of his sons ab well asthe attorneys Inthe <ase, whereupon the Judge said: “Gentlemen attorneys, there seems to be an objection on the part of some of the jurors to sit with one of their number; will you agree to excise him?” Beth parties assenting, the Judge said: Mr. G. 88 Getehell, you are excused from serving on this Jury and alse for the balaneé of the term.” Whereupon our Piety Hill friend yracetully and majesticaily retited with /a counténance upon which was impressed fhe realization of the fact that after all, it was rather a good joke on “ Sehnyder.” We do not chrouicle this item out of any feeling other than pity for the man who, from want of good sense or strange peculiarities, makes himself so obnoxious to his fellow men that they will subject themselves. to imprisopinent, rather than sit in council with him to settle others’ differences. But, we do believe that it is unjust to him, to.paes him through such a disgraceful and mortifying urdeal, when st could Be avoided by the proper authorities in declining to su him te act in euch capacity. “ap cehiilgce A Wiandka. —A Chinaman, whose blood need refreshing and invigorating, called at one of our drug stores, yesterday, and applied fora bottle of sarsaparilla. ULTRAIsM.—Lok alitams indorses the idea of ultraism advaneed by the Journal, and says empbatieally with that paper “it has neither good feeling, good sense or decency.” He solemuly avers that sort of ultraism that would rather see a daughter in her shroud then in aball room, he has no respect or sympathy for in the least. a I : ta” Rev.
