Se SALE or Reat, Estate.—The fine building lot on_Main street, above the resideuice of JOH. Bostwick, belonging te the estate of Edward Kelsey, was evld yesterday morning _at Administrator’s sale for $460. John P. Skelten, Esq. was the purchaser. The lot is a large and desirable one, and when a nice house is erected cn it—such a one as friend Skelton will doubtless build—it-will-make a brother typo on this his first move towards a domestic life. May he flourish and mult'ply! 2 Prve Weatuer.—The weuther is so exceedingly tine, and it is such a nice time to phint trees, thateven the laziest fellow in the the landscape. “The exhilirating effect of the weather is such that we find a wooden purpose of making an orchard.of it, and as nothing but-an-item-can—betmuade out of the fellow, we muke that, and go on our way rejorcing. fag cane Works oF ART.—We had the pleasure of seving, yesterday, two beautiful oil paint‘ingé at the shop f Mr. Geo. E. Withington, . éxeouted by O. G. Auld. They are most benutitully finished and reflect much credit on. the artist who painted them. $ SE. THE boys made use of the fair weather of “yesterday. They were all out enjoying the sunshine and fomenting war and discord and the stupid brutes were silly enough to of the crowd. The ladies, too—gondness forgive us for mentioning them in connection with dog fiyhts—were out, enjoying the smiles of old Sel, their gay ribbons fluttering in the balmy breeze, and lending a charm to the landseape which made a fellow thank God that Spring was coming. Hurrah for fine weather ! A ~~ THE FtGur between the dogs Keeper and Jack came off yesterday afternoon at Tracy's Pavilion and resulted in favor of Keeper who won the fight in fifty-five minutes. A large crowd witnessed the ‘contest. In the early versary tried to get away from him at almost every round, though he would again scratch when brought back. But during the last ten minutes Keeper caught what « man beabled him to shake poor Jack out of all his, as he appeared to have no “ second wind” to fall back upon. Discnarcep.—J. B. Van Hagen Esq. who was brought up on arrest fer contempt of Court, from San Francisco by the Deputy Sheriff of that county, was brought before udge McFarland yesterday and discharged bn the ground that insufficient notice had been given him. We learn from Mr. Van Hagen that the derringer he was flourishing a day or two ince, hada bullet in it. So it was “sup: ” . Pus. A. A. Sargent and others. [9 Considerable dispute is being had hbout direct taxation for the sup of the war, and some were most fierce for war are most backward in putting their hands into their pockets to pay for it. War is always “costly business, but-now-we are in for it here is no avoiding such taxation as will eep-good the credit of the government. To b way we will never pay at all.
