MtT. “ft. es 1. th th a (© = — e's Be ally eH ) 1 . is Ss, rc. . ‘Mammoth Sluicing Company, on Little Deer TURSPAY MORNING, MARCH 25th.. A Noecerr, weighing one ouce short of two pounds avoir du pois, and valued at between fwe and three hundred dollars, was. found on Saturday last, in the claims of the Creek, about three quarters of a mile above tows. This nugget consists of a piece of quartz which was evidently detached from the croppings of a quartz lead not far off and its sojourn in the creek cannot have been very long. The surface of the rock has been _swashed_amooth. it is true, but ite angular shape bears witness that it has not been expesed to the current of the creek for many years. The finders indulge ‘n many speculations.as to the probability of a vein of rich quartz crossing the creek at some point not far from where the specimen was found, and a sharp look ont for it will ne doubt be kept by the miners of the Manfinoth Company.— Happening to be somewhat acquainted with this Ineality and with the character of the quartz there found, we have no hesitation m expressing our belief that this specimen is a with pan, brush, af si sluice. The watchman would not shoot himself but went tothe cabin of the owners of the claim and waking acqnainted them with the facts. They proceeded cautiously to the spot and on getting a fair view of the robber, lodged two charges of buckshot in hie breast, killing him instantly. ‘The Chinaman had already succeeded in cleaning up two , betore the fatal shot had terminated his. thieving career. S.iurces Roprep.— The sluices of: a French miner, named Philippe, whose claims are at Rock Creek, some three miles from Nevada, were robbed last week of gold supot pieces, containing all the way from a to the spot where it was found. 7. The surface'of this hill was sluiced off in 1853, the boxes leading to and discharging at a short distance from the creek, about one hundred yards above the spot where this piece was found Among the tailinga discharged from these bexes were several tons of surface quartz, ‘of_precisely the same nature as this specimen. Hundreds color” to one or two dollars were found amoug them, and no doubt exists in our mind that this piece of quartz was sluiced along with the tailings, and carried by the current APPRAY AT Noara San Juaw.—A cae ning affair came off in that most order-leving town of North San Juan, on Saturday evening last. The parties to the affair were Stidger of the second part, that is to say; Marcus Aurelius met the Judgeiathe street . ™ and proceeded to give him a castigation, with mahee aforethought, with a cane in his hand, and sundry weapons under his clothes. The testimony in the case is said to be some what conflicting, but as near as our informant could learn, in addition to the foregoing, the following are the facts: Whoever begun the affair found his antagonist ready for the “fout” which was well maintained tor some time. The party of the first part, however made a lucky hit for himself, and posed to amount to abeut $600. der and we shall probably receive some hm« portant news to-day. _ _Dustricr Court, March 28th —0O, 1.
