Their being thrown out in sanctimonious language does not improve them a bit. Reviling a man in one column and _cajoling him in another; doubting the authorship of a card, when the author's name is at the bottem of it in -eapital letters ; condemning the tenor of that card and ¢>mplimenting the man whose name is at the bottom of it, may appear very straightforward and logical with the “family newspaper” man, but to ordinary mortals, those whose knowledge of the subtie science of casuistry is not .so profound as the family newspaper man’s, it appears quite contradictory. Better be frank, Parson! crit is by no ineans a pleasent task to carry ona controversy with the “family news-:}_ paper” There is neither profit nor glory to be derived from, it, no matter how clear you. make your case. Quarreling with it, is very much like quarreling with an unprotected femele. The best thing you can do is to let the eritter alone. We had the verdancy to suppose that he might possibly mean what he says at the head of his first page in regard to advertising, and took the trouble of making a calculation accordingly, but he now comes and says that it don’t mean anything of the sort.
