STEAMER ASHORE.—At 6 o'clock, Jast
evening, some of the crew of the steamer
Swan_arrived here in a emall beat, bringing
the information that the steamer. while on
her way down from Red Bluff, when one

had run ashore, and could nat be gut off without additional aid. It appears that while taking some * short cut” through a slough connected with the Sacramente river, the Swar

Catirornia Drirrv.—Capt. E G. Hewes
of the schooner Wild Pigeon, just arrived
from Mazatlan, reports having seen large
quantities of drift of every conceivable character, two hundred and fifty miles off this
port. The sight was so unusual even to his
accustomed and observant eye, that ne noticed the phenomena most particulanly. He
reperts that it looked like the debris from
some sunken city, and he thought San Fran

that far seaward is seldom seen in this latiude, is a singular confirmation of the intenof the great flood which lately devasat‘alifornia.--S.F. Herald.
