Quantz Discovery —The Democrat
has made mention of a quartz discovery in
which the TRaxscriPT office is interested
made by J. H. Boardinan and B. Harrigan.
It is, perhaps, not improper for us to say a
word or two on the subject.—The lode is
about a mile and a half from town, on the
of paying from $200 to $1,000 per ton.—
But little of the ledge has been exposed,
the prospectors having made but about four.
teen feet perpendicular descent upon it.—
The ledge at that depth is about fourteen
inches in thickness, and looks promising.—
Men are at work upon the ground. getting
out reck for crushing. and in a few days we
will knew more about the value of the lead.

Miss Gooprica's ENTERTAINMENT.—
Mies Sallie B. Goodrich gave a reading at
the Theatre on Thursday evening to a good
audience. The entertainment consisted of
reading the Hunchback, several original
pieces of poetry, and a tecture of the Duty of
California Ladies to their country.
Miss Goodrich enunciates distinely and
well. Every word thatdrops from her lips
is full, with not an angle or a sprangle mar_ red. But she is too monotonous in the intonations of her voice. The raising and fals .
~ ling of the voice occurs at tuo regular inter.
vals. She reads prose betterthan poetry.—
_ Miss Goodrich has a fine presence, and being.
