Serious AcctpeNT.—A man by the name of John Moulder, who was employed in the claims. of Cook & Co., at North Bloomfield; on Musquito hill, while holding the pipe, , on Monday ‘ast, slipped into the ground sluice and waa carried down the shaft a depth of twenty-five feet, and through two sets of sluice boxes. He was picked up ap. parently lifeless. His head was terribly cut, his skull fractured, besides being bruised and who pronounced his case very serious, but thought the patient might possibly recover. The injured man has a brother, George questéd'to come te him at once. No. 66 Broad Street, Nevada, suit was brought in the District Court’ of Nevada county by John R. McConnell, Esq., against Charles Kent of thiscity. Yesterday prosecution of the suit under and in pursuance of the act of the Legislature entitled “ag act to exclude traitors and alien euemies from courts of justice,” for the reason that said John R. MeConnell was a disloyal citizen, and & sympathiser with the Southern Confederacy in rebellion against the lawful goverament of the United States of Amer~ Connell, who immediately theyeafter subscribed and made to the following affidavit ; ~ I, John R. MeConnell, do solemnly swear that I will support the Constitution of the United States and the conatitution of the State of California; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the Government of the United States, any ordingnee, resolution or law of any State or Territory, or of any convention or legislature thereof to the contrary notwithstanding; that I have not, since the 25th day of April, 1863, knowingly aided, encouraged, countenaneed or assisted; nor will I hereafter in any manner aid, encourage, countenance or assist the ao~called Con= federate States, or any of them in their re« bellion against the lawful Goverument of the United States: and this I do withoat apy qualification or mental reservation whatsoever. So help me God. . J. R. McConwett. A. C. Niles, Notary Public. ; Lert Us.—Our young friend from the Pyrenees, Andre Maute, left us yesterday as he will have anywhere he is known. Andre has been two years and a half one of the TRANSCRIPT family; and a truer bearted or more amiable young man is hard to find. His impulses are al! generous and good. He deserves a pyramid of silver bricks as big asthe pile of Cheops, and we hope he will be the owner of such. The fraternity of our office has lost a valuable member, and we feel it, but we trust it is for the ultimate welfare of our friend. KILLED BY A Cave.—Mr. Prieat. foreman of the Rogers’ diggings on American Hill, was suddenly killed yesterday about novu, by the caving of thebank. Priest was standing on the bank; it began to break and he fell'in the fissure and was covered to the depth of fitteen feet. When extracted, life was extinct. The deceased leaves a wife to mourn his loss. " CEASED RatNING.—The clouds broke away yesterday and the sun came out occasionally, warming up things finely. There has not been enough rain to do miners mtich good, ond searcely enough ta wet hard svils. We saw « trench dug yesterday morning in which the earth, three inches from the surface, was dry and crumbly, appareufly not affected by the rain at all. Ina*loose soils the water must have penetrated deeper. The water that has fallen has freshened thiigs amazingly, and will do good through the lungs of plants if not through the roots. inns inspite 8 Sunpay Lepce.—Tne owa're of the Sunday ledge met at the TRANscHuPT office on Monday evening aad levied a further assessment for the prosecution of the work ups on the ledge. The minerg have got down _ Upon it sixty-five feet, and are now engaged . 10 taking out rock for crushing. The specimens from the ledge look exceedingly Well, z rich. : STEAMER.—The stegmer that arrived at Sau Francisco from: Panama yesterday brought a brother and young sister of John Pattison, Esq., and the wife and daughter of Dr. Trautman.
