Mend, some nine years of age, met with his death, yesterday afternoon at two o'clock, in the following distressing manner: ‘The little fellow was at school and went, in eompany, with another boy, a son of mr. Kraft, to draw a bicket of water from the well of Mr. Hixon, whose residence adjoins the school house. The well is some the bottem. . As the bucket reached the . mouth of the well, young Mead, in attempt ing to pull it out, was drawn down the well by the weight of the bucket. His companion, Kraft, made a grab to catch him, and succevded in getting hold of his feet and held ‘him -o for some seconds, till the weight proved too much for him, and he lef go. The poor little fellow fell, head foremost, te’ the pnd assistance procured, but he was found dead at the ! ottow ot the well. The skull, over the right eye, was lnid bare by striking ageinst’the wall of the well, his left thigh was broken, and his body’ terribly mangled. SECESSION ENVELOPES. — Some enterprising fellow, in the seceded states, has gotten up a new style of envelope. A secession the upper, left hand corner is a semi-circle of seven stars, with a more prominent one in ‘the center of the semi-circle. On the upper part are engraved the words : “‘ Jeff. Davis, President,’’ and under it, in the middle of the lower. part, are’ the words: ‘“ Alex. H. Stephens, Vice President.” A letter, done wup.in one of these envelopes, came to the Nevada post-office, addressed-to—-one of “the aldest and strongest. Republicans in the county. He is absent now, and we imagine ithat when he receives it he will be puzzled as to whether to open it or not. The Government states, not to be behind ihand, have also gotten up a new envelope ‘On the upper left hand corner stands the goddess of liberty, holding in her hand a ‘beautiful American flag, and under the figure of the goddess are the words: “ down with traitors.” ~ fe Rev. FEMALE VDEGRADATION.—-Officer Knerr, yesterday, found a female in. the streets in had to convey her to the lock up in a wheel barrow. Drunkenness in mea is disgusting enough ; but there-is something inexpressibly revolting in the sight of a drunken woman. The workmen have Teached the depth of six feet -below the surface, and the quicksilyr is still found in little globules so thick that a stream &lmost fellows the stroke of the pick. Quicksilver is Worth about 45 cents per pound, and six men are daily stuicing cut between $200 or $900 Worth.
