A FEemMALe ImPostror:—For thé list teu
days, as we have the. best authority for asserting, a Woman, of genteel address, has
been levying contributions on the miners and
others, tn and. about Nevada and Grass Valley, to a very considerable extent: Her story
is, that. she has two children to-send to the
Atlantic States, ot to England, who are destitute orphans. This story is told very eraftily
and is calculated te deceive -thé Most wary.
She has on her list of benefactions the names,
of many gentlemen she. has certainly tiever
seen. She is the same woman who, tot long
since, ited a buggy and horses of a livery
stable keeper, in San Francisco, and drove so
hard as to cause the death of the horses. Her
name is BELL, and sife is Usually accompanied by a good looking Jad, of about sixteen

A Few QUERIES. —The Marysville Demeerat, the most vigorous Douglas paper in the
State, propounds the following queries:
“Tf Lincoln be elected, he will swear to
support the Constitution and the laws, for
such is the Presidential oath. The Fugitive
Slave Law is one of those laws. If he exeecutes that, faithfully, will the South have
cause to secede? Another one'of those is
the law against the slave trade. If he exe
cutes that will the South have cause to secede? If he breaks his oath and does not
execute the law against the slave trade,
‘ought the North to secede? ‘There is a law,’
we believe, in force by which the President
is enabled te command the means of putti
down nullification. If any of the Southern
States attempt rebellion, will Lincoln execute that law?”

River MINtNe.—The late rains have
driven our river miners, says the Butte Democrat, out of their claims—the rise of watere having carried away portions of their

DEMOCRATIC STAXDARD.—This weekly

themselves and the sheep the best they could;
the Navajos taking advantage of the weak

CONSUMPTIVE’S READ.--Dr. Wri.
Hall’s Balsam has: proved more successful than
cure ofall the early stages of consumption. Those

in the pamphlet accompanying the medicine.
Dr. Wm. Hall’s BALSAM claims the favorable

uses of Opium or Morphine. This astonishing
remedy for CONSUMPTION and LUNG DISEASES,
has received tire strongest testimonials from
citizens of the highest respectability, aid is richly
worth a fair trial. Nightsweats and spitting of
Blood—For these complaints, none can be found
so efficacious as Dk. Wot. HALL’s. BALSAM. It

The wide reputation which Dr. J. Hostetter’s “* STOMACH BITTERS ” have attained
during the past year bespeaks its excellence in a
can offer. It renovates, purifies and strengthens
the system, and aids the stomach in the performance efits functions. It is regarded on all sides
as a sovereign specific, and, therefore, to procure
it in the best possible way, should be the object
of the public. We commend it with more than
usual zeal and confidence, believing amd kuowing
as we do, that it stands foremost ef the many
preparations ef the day, for imparting strength
vigor and tone to the system, and poss essing the
curative powers for all similar discases arising
from a disardered stomoch. In the mest severe
cases of crame, diarrhwa, and weakness in the
stomach, the ‘‘ Bitters” have been rigidly tested
and always with the greatest success:
