The firat, a race for a purse of $150 free to sll running horses. For this race Edward Marselus’ -bay horse and Swift’s bay were entered. Syift’s horse led the former nearjy the whole distance, when he flew the * track, Marselus’ horse winning the purse in 25. The second race—a purse of $100, free to slseéond class trotting horses now owned in the eounty, mile heats best 3 in 5—Tisdale’s gray borse and Sigourney’s bay were entered for this race. They started off well, both horses trotting smoothly until out of sight of the stand, when the bay broke and started on arun, his driver being unable to central bim. The “turnout’’ passed through the erowd near the stund, knocking down again out of sight over the knoll-where he divested the sulky of wheels and driver. He then ran across the track and up the turn pike where the horse was stopped. The gray trotted around, distancing the bay and winning the race in 3:5. Day dawned, and sooa the clock told that the hour of seven had arrived; but only one of the principles was on hand. After considerable of delay and guessing as to the whereabouts of the other party a communication was received from him stating that he thought fighting duels was very poor business, and that he would not be on hand to take any stock in the contemplated fight. His head was sound. of five persons, disappeared from the town of Laybach about forty years ago, and no trace of them was ever discovered. Suspicion fell upon a hotel servant, as, shortly afler disappearance, he purchased a hotel for forty thousand florins.
