everybody decides that the road is going to
be impractieable, and that it is aseless to try
it, then indeed will the proprietors of these
lines be compelled to abandon their task.—
We should regard this as a, misfortune to
our town. The elements of prosperity which
we possess aye neither so great nor so numer-ous and we-¥an not afford to throwthis one
away, aud rather than have this happen it
would be wise on our part to make a smal
pecuniary saerifice to prevent it.

= t= The most tremendous puff we have
seen for a long while we read yesterday in
the Grass Valley National. Somebody sent:
the National man a few pears, and thereupon
he turos to and writes a puff which takes
the proportions of an epic’ poem. -If some
apples and a pumpkin had been added to. the
gift, we have no doubt brother Ewer would
have spread himself till Homer’s Iliad would
have appeared like small potatoes.
ta” The Democrat man gives a most pathetie and affecting account of the dem’: of a

swallowed a sausage which he found it impossible to digest, and although all the caninerary science in the town was brought to
bear, the poor dorg expired. Alas! sich is

The high appreciation which econneisseurs and
the public generall; have-extended to our “OLD

and the consequent increasing demand for them
in all sections of the country, have induced un .
principled parties to resort to the most unfair
and disreputable imitations and counterfeits of
eur brands and products. We have beén advised
by our correspondefits in verious sections of the
country, that. a common and very inferior

In other ‘cases, similar incorrect ways of

We therefere call the attention of eur customers, and ef dealers generally, to the above facts,
and desire them to observe tle correct spelling
