CHALLENGE.—I have learned indirectly that Mat Tracy, of Nevada, bas stated that he is willing te fight me a ring fight for the suin of $3,000. Now this is alarger sum than I can raise, and { think more money than be ean command. I am anxious te make a match with Mr. Tracy, aod would therefore p to ficht him for the sum of $700, with the tivilege of increasing the stake to $1,000. hie is the largest eum I eam get together, and Mr. Tracy should vecollect thatin my last battle with him I was anxious to fight for a larger stake, but generoudy acconimo dated him in making the amount smaller to correspond with bis means: I would also remark that an offer to fight for so large a sum , 48 $3,000 looks like gasconade, and in my opinion does not «‘mean fight.” If Mr. Tracy is in earnest, he certainly can have ne objection to give me a sight for my meney. It he is willing to match me, the fight can come off either kere, or in Nevada, within twe months after signing the articles ; either party paying the ottier’s expenses. g : A communication addressed te me at No. 6 Broadway, San Francisco, will meet with prompt attention. The Biitish civil authurity was two or three times renewed, and put in easy operation, always, with the cheerful concurrence of*the peo: There is nothing in the «vents of the Revolution to induce e-high estimate of either the power or the purpose of the citizens of the central.district of secession to resist the Government which prevails in the country generally, after-that Government has shown that it has purpose and power of its own. They defied us now because they were confident of being able te,drag other States into the conflict, if one should ensue; and they have sv compelled other people to fight all the battles that will be fought. . When Virginia is beaten, South Carolina will uct bring her own precious militia isto further cenflict, aud the history of the earliest war on this cuntineat will be repeated ‘in this lagt gne in the dirkest center of secossion fury.
