asallies and make the triumph of the rebels
easy, The rebels were deceived, but the
guilt of the deceiversis none the less. Hyd
the Demoerngy of the North planted: itselt in
oprosition to the dogmas of Calhoun on ail
eecasion :, and presented to the rebels in a
properlight, theattitude it must assume in
the eveng of the election of a Republican
President, this rebellion would not have received encouragement where it should not,
and might net hove happened.

a party there in-favor of a settlement of difficulties, and terrifying the’inhabitants about
negro insurrections, the effect in the armies

has taken place. The army seems to regard

of the Indian:massacres in the North-West,
have complaints to make of the imbumanity
of slave insurrections. That revelts are
likely to arise against the-slavé masters, is
adwitted probavle; but the danger is of the
rebels’ own seeking. If they would not subject themselved and their families to perils
fromt liberated men whose rights they bave
outraged, they should not have set the example of rebellion. They have earued the
wotst disasters, and are worthy of the

to them till we see them and their cause coming out of the little end of a horn, like rot gut,
