ad N-~ 3S. inrange Ps, Lor . Ze gale Ave the du [Rh ada, ICE illey ER fal al sait No. Pd to. % " and dangerously wounded. This statement, . ‘and on that day he had drank nothing stronger Aevala Daily Transcript, _and has not been heard of since.HOME MATTERS. Tue Feicas om Baoap Starer:— tn our statement of the fracas which occurred on Broad street, night before last, we stated that a man named McGinnis was struck on the head with a tumbler by C. P-McCauliff gathered in the hurry and confusion:of ‘the moment, is only partially correct. The man is, mentioned above, was wounded, but not dangerously. Another man, named Noland, is the person thus severely ‘hurt, It is supposed that he was struck with a decanter. The wound is of such a character iiiat the sufferer is liable to die at any mojnent, and his situation is as critical now as it was when the wound was inflicted. Noland, we understand, was formerly employed in the Nebraska shaft, and had the reputation of a steady, bard working, sober man. Day before yesterday was the first time, in seven years, that-he-had tasted any liquor whatever, than port and sherry wine. MeCauliff disappeared immediately after the occurrence This is another example, if any was needed, of the evil and dangerous ‘effects on certain organizations, of indulging in ardent spirits. Had Noland resisted the temptations to drink which thé occasion of day before yesterday threw in his way, he would now be attending to his business ivstead of being on the verge of the grave. : Se eee New REcRUITING OFFIcE.—By reference te a notice in to-day’s issue, it will bé seen that Mr. Chas. Atchisson has opened a recruiting office at Col. A: W. Potter's saloon, en Main street. The recruits wanted are intended to form an infantry company. te The tide of travel to Washoe, via the Henness Pass, is steadily setting in. Mr. Sale, yesterday morning, took over eight passengers who came from Sacramento, and Mr. Mau’s passengers are alse principally made up of passengers coming from the same place. The route only wants to be known in order to be patronized. o —Moore’sFLaT.—The amount contributed to the Patriotic Fund, at the Moore’s Flat precinct, at the last election, was $30 25, instead of $6 75, as was published in our paper some days ago. MAaTTESON’S, DERRICK.—This very important invention, we perceive, is an ebject of great interest-at the State Agricultural Fair. If it do not command a big premium, we are grossly mistaken. To the People ‘of Grass Valley and Nevada, 1 have been running a line of stages into your towne since the first of J une, thereby reducing the fare to Marysville from six dollars to three. My little quill wheel upposition caused the fare between your towis and Sacramento to be reduced from ten to seven dollars.’ I have never callcd on your patronage, as . could do well haul ing fruit and you could do weil riding with the California Stage Company fer one dollar, which company, I hope, gave you good satisfaction, especially that portion of you who were liberal enough to pay me two dollars and ride with that company. I now ask you to consider my case ané ride with me, or pay me sufficiently, and you can always ride to Marysville for three dollars. I do not invend to lose any money running stages for any community ; . worked for my money and I do intend to keep it. It is better for you to try and pay me to keep the fare to a reasonable price at all times than to pry one dollar to-day and have six dollars imposed on you to-morrow. I shall stock the road irom Marysville to Sac ramento an the 10th of September next, and then I will take you through from Nevada to Sacra mento for six dollars; but without your good will and some of your money, I cannot stay with you.
