been here for the past week obtaining signO

the Grand Court, which meets in San Francisco May 18th. James Foley was, chosen

A False Report.
It was reported at Grass Valley last evenning that Sheriff Douglass had been shot
and:killed while pursuing the train robber
who killed Sheriff Bogard of Tehama
county. The report reached this city and
was quite generally circulated. Inquiry by
telephone to Marysville and other points
showed that there was no truth in the report and that Douglass was all right. He
left heré for Marysville Saturday to assist
in the hunt after the murderer,
