R., who has been here for the past week obtaining signO ers fora charter. (The Court starts in with T a membership of thirty. A long and interesting talk was given by Deputy Light, who gave the history and explained the aims, teachings and working of the order. The meeting adjourned until last night, at which time the charter, closed, James (i, Neagle was elected as the delegate to the Grand Court, which meets in San Francisco May 18th. It was reported at Grass Valley last evenning that Sheriff Douglass had been shot and:killed while pursuing the train robber who killed Sheriff Bogard of Tehama county. The report reached this city and was quite generally circulated. Inquiry by telephone to Marysville and other points showed that there was no truth in the report and that Douglass was all right.
