The Board of City Trustees held an adjourned meeting last evening for the purpose of awarding the contract for the lighting of the city by means of electricity. The Nevada County Electric Power Compayy were the only bidders, they submit— ting four different propositions. The bid accepted by the Board was as follows: Fifty-five 24-candle power incandescent lamps, to"bura all night, per month each, $2; 32-power lamps, $2.50; 50-candle power Jamps. ., After the bids had been spied considerable discussion followed as to which bid should be accepted. They finally decided upon the first part of the above bid, fifty, five 24-candle poweér.lamps, . The original price as set forth in the bid would amount to $110 monthly, but E, J. de Sabla on behalf of the bidders considerately reduced i¢:0-$100-and in addition stated that were the company’s bid accepted the City Hall and jail would be lighted free of charge, and ‘the contract went to the Power Company for one year, eommencing May_ Ist. ‘Pwo numerously signed petitions were: presented tothe Board. asking for all-night lights and it was in deference to the general wish of the citizens that ‘the contract for all-night lighting was made. Geo. D. Buckley appeared before the Board with a request for permission to erect a large platform over the bed of Deer creek, extending from his building on the west side to-the.opposite side, between the two iron bridges. If allowed to do so he stated that in retarn he would build a stone wall connecting the piers of both bridges on the east’ side “aid fill‘in behind the same in a substantial manner, and «in addition build a sidewalk around the lower end from Broad to Main street, The Trustees will take one week to consider the matter. Wm. 8. Richards petitioned the Board to aesist him in putting bis Broad-street well in condition for use during the coming summer, on the ground that the well is as much a public convenience as of a private or individual benefit. Action will be taken on the request one week hence, Marshal Getchell was authorized to grant Grissel Bros. the desired privilege of erecting asmall stable within the general firs limite. ? A Faithful Ropeesbutative. “Marysville Democrat: Morday afternoon in the House of Representatives the general appropration bill providing for work in improving harbors and navigable rivers was passed by nearly a unanimons vote, among the items being $250,000 for work on the ~¥uba and’ Feather rivers. At about the same hour in the Court House in this city the Board of Supervisors adopted a resolution favoring such appropriation, This proposition has been before the Committee on Rivers and Harbors two months and has been a theme for argument orally and in the newspapers, particularly in this part of the State where we are directly interested. There was atime when such a resolution would have been thankfully received at Washing‘ ton and-then it would have meant something mre than mere words, Congressman Johnson has been diligent and a faithful worker is ‘securing tecognition for the people of this county. He has felt.the need of words of encouragement from the people and offical bodies of this city and county, but he did not get it until after the battle was won. He has recognized the support given to him by the Democrat while working almost con tinuously night and day to secure the neeessary money to commence work on the Yuba river, and that his part has been performed faithfully and ‘well we extend to him the congratulations of the conservative majority of people of Yuba county. The Dance Tonight. After weeks of zealous preparation everything is now in readiness for the grand ball to be given by the ladies of St, Canice Catholic Church at Armory Hall tonight. While the condition of the weather may prove a detriment to the number of gallery spectators who would otherwise be present, it will not retard one whit the attendance of w large crowd of dancers. The music secured for the occasion is of the very best, embracing some of the very latest and appropriate dance music.
