The Board by unanimous vote refused to purchase the Bridgeport toll bridge and road for want of funds, . On motion and by order of the Board the chaingang was declared abolished until further order of the Board. Petition having been received from the citizens of Washington township, request—ing a wagon road from Washington to Relief Hill, the. following viewers were appointed: Henry Frye, John McBean and Fred M. Miller. The resignation of Henry Waters as a member of the Horticultural Commission terday afternoon. William Buck arrived from San Francisco, on his way to his home at Moore’s Flat. Wadsworth and wife went below this morning on 4 visit to Los Angeles and They expect to be absent a week or ten days. -*er + A Pork Packer’s Sentence, other points in Southern California, Constable Duncan arrived from Truckee this morning, having in his custody John Fitzgerald, who is booked for 120 days’ imprisonment in the county Fitzgerald, in company with several other here jail, hobos, stole’a lot of pork shoulders from a butcher in Truckee. No. 4, for a road from Pleasant Valley . across Section 7, Township 16 North, Range 8 East, heretofore laid over, was taken up and rejected by the Board, The Board visited the County Hospital and found the same in a neat and excellent condition and well conducted, Applications and petitions having been received from J. M. Hussey, F. M, Rutherford and J, 8, Hennessey for the appointment to the office of members of the County Board of Education for the term of two years a ballot was taken with ‘the fellowing result : Supervisor Buffington voted for Hussey and Kutherford, Supervisor Donnelly voted for Hennessey and Rutherford. Supervisor Pridgeon voted for Hussey and Rutherford, © Supervisor Robinson voted for Hussey avd Rutherford. _ Supervisor McPhetres voted for Hussey and Rutherford. The total vote was as follows: 4, Rutherford 5,’ Hennessey 1}. J. M, Hussey and F, M. Rutherford having received the majority of votes cast were declared elected members of the County Board of Education. Mike Hanley’s Saloon Entered and Over $200 Stolen, Burglars.last night entered the saloon of Mike Hanley, at the junction of Main and Commercial streets. They effected. an enwalk in front of the building, which gave them access to the cellar. From the cellar it was an easy matter to reach the saloon trance by prying up a board from the side. ! by the steps and trap—door. The till was broken open and its,contents, amounting to between $200 and $300, stolen. Mr. Hanley! had neglected to deposit the money, and as it was late when he closed the saloon he did not like to take it with him, for fear of being stood up. The burglars are evidently fond of good cigars, as they also stole two boxes, of 100 each, highgrade cigars, valued at $13 a box, Mr. Hanley could not tell whether they took anything else from his stock, but it is very likely they helped themselves to other things, The crime was .cotmumitted some time between 12 o'clock last night and 7 o'clock this morning. Attempts to rob the place were made twice before, but eaci time were unsuccessful. The work of putting’ in the new pump at the Odin mine was begun today, but slow progress was made,~ It will take several days to get the pump set and everything in working order, In’ the meautime the water cars have stopped runniug. The pump is a double acting one, and is cupable of raising 100 gallons of water a minute. When the pump gets to work it will take but a short time to clear the mine of water, — ae aut i Rather Rough. The Game Law. —— There has been @-qoestion in the minds of ; Many people whether the game-law provisions passed by the recent Legislature would annul ordinances previously passed by the Boards of Supervisors regarding the open aad close season for fish or game, or whether these ordinances would remain in force. District Attoruey Riley has been looking the matter up and is of the upinion that the new. provisions and changes enacted by the L'g slatur: render null and void all previou action which Supervisors ‘may have taken in the matter. Under.the present law ‘he open season for trout begins the Ist of May, whereas the county ordinancé fixes the time at June Ist. Nevada county fishermen will therefore have the right to follow the State law and catch fish on and after the Ist of May. so ee Will Go to Truckee. The Board of Supervisors will go to Truckee in June to equalize the fire tax there It will require three or four days to complete the work. A cricket game between the Nevada City Cricket. Club and the Penryn cricketers is spoken of, and arrangements may be made to have the contest take place of next month. The Truckee Incident to Be Fully inquired Into, Miss Lizzie Bernard, Principal of the schoo] at Fourth and Qwtreets, Sacramento, has requested the City Board of Education statement published concerning ber alleged conduct while visiting Truckee recently. From what can be learned through persons who were in Truckee at the time, it would appear, that there was no foundation for the ‘statement’ published by the.
