HE DAILY TRANSCRIPT Published Every Evening, except Sunday, The Brunswick Mine to Be Newly _ Outfitted. Union*\The Branswick mine at Unior Hill is coming to the front and promises soon to be one of the leading dividendpayers in this distr:ct. The mine has reached a depth of 800 feet and in the bottom level the ledge is said to be of good size and the quartz of fine quality. Captain George A. Niliell, the superintendent, has gone to San Francisco to make arrangeniensforthepurchase of an entire new hoisting plant, as the one now on the mine is inadequate. The Brunswick is owned principally by New York parties, although a good many shares of stock are owned by Grass Valleyans, who have always had faith in the mine. It now seems probable that their judgment was correct and the company, which has spent many thousands of dollars in developing the mine is worthy of all success. , The Union Hill district is considered one of the best in the State and the Brunswick has proven that all is needed is depth. There is a large amount of water in that section and good pumping plahts are necessary. The success of the Brunswick will encourage the owners of other properties in the same section and it is quite likely that at no distant date the old Union Hill mine will be reopened, Doel g Raaay Will Contest?" ~ BROWN & CALKINS, Proprietors. It is stated that the Fee Bill pasted by this last Legislature, which has proved so disastrous to the Constables, will -be° contested with the hope that it may be knocked dangled before the eyes of those officials be restored. The contest will be undertaken in San Francisco, and the Constables of Alameda will contribute pro rata toward defraying the expense. The plan decided vWpon is to have some person make application to file a document of some kind in the office of the County Clerk, The Clerk will demand his fee and the fee will be disregarded, The Clerk will then refuse to file the instrument, A mandamus to compel B. A First Class Performance at a Low Rate Certainly Should Draw. The Ward Company will appear at the Theater this evening in the popular Jrish play, ‘‘The Shaughraun.” This is one of the best of thé Irish comedy-dramas ever presented to an audience and when the actors are of the high class that this company are, with prices that place it within the reach of all, the house should be filled. In fact’ Mr. Ward promises to give a dollar’s worth of first-class entertainment each evening during the week for the following very low prices, 15, 25 and 35 cents. Mr. Bates, the manager of the Ward Company, speaking today of the low prices said: ‘‘Although the admission is cheap the company is first-class. It must be or surely we would not remain a week in one place. Besides, by remaining a week our. expenses are low compared with a one night’s stand—in fact, it is almost one-half. Consequently we can give first-class per= formances for half the regular prices, In every city on this coast where we have played we have given generat satisfaction and crowded houses have greeted our eftorts.” ( (5 eee He Spring Jackets and Gowns. For Spring wear, the Norfolk jacket will again be the favorite, being used as a distinek, garment, or as a component of tailor costumes. In these jackets, the three box pleats, to conform with the present taste,’ are made, both back and front, to fall below the belt in a full short skirt style, thus producing the flaring effgct which is 80. much sought after. When they are made up of cloth for wear_with various gowns silk is generally used for the belt, It is asserted that sleeves will be as large as ever, if not larger. As for skirts they are more and more flaring at-the bottom, showing the From London the new tailor gowns for Spring have double breasted blouse-waists without fullness at the neck, but very -much gathered all around at the waists. It is claitied that thousands of dollars cap be saved annually by the ladies who wish to ecotiumize aud will use the following treatment of soiled kid gloves. Only the very best quality of gloves. can be successfully cleaned, But such a glove, provided it is of undressed kid, may be cleaned repeatedly and worn until it is literally worn out. It is more difficult to clean a dressed’kid glove, and even under the best circumstances the process ig more or less of a failure becanse the gloss or finish of the gloves also comes away inthe process. With an undressed glove this“is a very different matter, and there is no excuse for professional glove cleaners sending such gloves back stiff and discolored. % —r ‘The common method of washing the gloves in benzine or gasoline is injurious to the leather. Stretch the glove on a wooden hand, or if that is not convenient on your own hand. Have abundance of cleaw flannel and cotton neat by. With a little benzine on a small piece of flannel go over the entire glove, finger by finger. As soon as the flannel becomes soiled, exchange it-for a clean piece. Do not use enough, benzine to saturate the leather, but simply enough to clean. off the soiled spots. Rub the glove from the finger tips, generally, downward and upward, and not ina circular way or across the leather. After using the gasoline ona spot rub it with clean flannel until it seems perfectly dry. » Only the very highest quality of benzine . or, better still, of gasoline, can be used: When the gloves are thoroughly cleaned, ‘rub them with a clean flannel and abundance of taleum powder, This powder. can be bought of any first-class drug store, and 10 cents worth is ordinarily enough for a year’s supply. Rub the leather thoroughly in every part with this talcum powder, It makes the glove not only-pliable and pleasant to wear, like a new glove, but it puts a soft bloom on the leather which takes away all suggestion of the cleansing process, ~ Piles hooks SN = Bucxinauam’s Dye for the Whiskers ‘is the best, handiest, safest, surest, cleanest, most economical.and satisfactory dye ever invented.
