THE GEORGIA MINSTRELS,
They Will: Appear at the Theatre Here
Tonight.
The Indianopolis (Ind.) Daily Journal ays:
There was a good audience at the theatre
last night, and fan reigned fast and furious
for well onto three hours. The attraction
was the Georgia Minstrele, and these colored
performers centainly furnished sweet music
and entertainment in plenty, Their singing.
dancing and comic features are e¢xceptionably clever, and they give a bright. performance all through,
Billy Kersands and James White furnieh
much of the fun in the first part. They are
aided by James Moore and Billy Reynolds.
Kérsands, of course, is well known to everybody as the most famous of all colored min=
strels. He is inimitable, There are numerous features in the first part which more
pretentious minstrels organizations would
do well to copy, though it would be hard to
get as.much: out of them as. these Georgia:

the clouds. away and soon after shone forth
bright and warm.
As soon as the weather. becomes settled

promises to be much activity in this direction during the coming summer and fall.

Although the past winter has not been a
very cold one, there ere many families in

short. The late cold snaps. have caused a
consumption of fuel that was rather unexpected.
WwW. Kelly and Swan Johnson . were

The Georgia Minstrels today made a fine
appearance on ‘the street and rendered some
excellent music with their band. There
are quite a number of the colored gentlemen and judging by the advance notices a
good performance will be witnessed by
those who attend. In the company are
some good singers and everything is brought
up to date, The band will give another
free concert in front of the Theatre this
evening previous to the beginning of the
minstrel performance, and it will be well
worth listening to,

The Last Resort.
Wasuneton, D. C., April 14,—Judge’
Lindley, of counsel. for appellant in the
case of Austin-Walrath vs. Champion Mining Company, yesterday submitted the case
to the United States Supreme Court, The
cave is to be tried on briefs, and the points
at issue will, determine the question of end
lines.
Provides a Bounty,
Wasninctox, D, C., April 14,.—Senator
Perkins yesterday introduced in the Senate
the bill introduced in the House some time
ago by Congressmen Grove L. Johnson, providing for an export bounty on agricultural
products, when carried by either American or foreign vessels, When carried by
American vessels the bounty is to be higher.
The bill is in _azcordance with the views
advocated before the Congressional committee by David Lubin of Sacramento.
Succumbed to the X Rays.
Cuicaco, April 14.—Experiments made
by two medical Professors demonstrate
that the cathode rays will positively destroy
discase germs of all kinds. Germs after
being subjected to the rays for a certain
time cease to propagate and finally die.
It is predicted that the new discovery will
be highly instrumental in the cure of
diseases. ‘
‘Spain Will Not Accept
Loxpon, April 14th.—A dispatch from
Madrid to the Pall Mall Gazette says the
Prime Minister of Spain is very sick and
cannot be interviewed. His relatives admit
that a communication has been received from
President Cleveland, but that the terms
thereof are such that Spain cannot accept.
Those high in official circles still insist that
Spam prefers war rather than humiliation.
Unintentional Flimfiam.
Keep your wits about you when
making change. It is a simple mat
ter to be flimflammed out of a good
sum, and any merchant is liable te
be a victim either of the unconscious
or intentional flimflammer. .A few
days ago a trade journal mentioned
& case of how @ bright young merchant was almost out $20 through’
this means. A customer owed a bill
ofi $1.95 and tendered a.$20 goldpiece
in payment. The merchant pulled
a couple of $10 bills out of his pocket, laid them on the counter and
then opened the cash drawer to get:
some small change. ‘‘Hold on,’' said
the customer. ‘ “‘Idon’t want to rob
gou of all your small change. Come
to think of it, I’ve got’a couple of
silver dollars here. Just give moa
nickel, and we will call it square.’’
And, handing the merchant. the:$3,
the customer picked up. the $20 gold.
piece and dropped it into‘his pocket.
Then he picked up the two $10 bills
and the nickel and laid them away
with the goldpiece and walked out.
The merchant studied the sittation
a few minutes and tlen realized that
he was out $20. The customer who
gecured the money was an eminently respectable person, however, and
the act of flimflamming was undoubtedly a piece of absentmindedness. All flimflammers are not of

A Curious Bible Verse.
There is a verse in the’ Bible which contains every letter in the alphabet “except j,

It is the twenty-first verse of the seventh

I, Artaxerxes, the King, do make a. decree
to all the treasurers which are beyond the
river, that whatsoever Ezra, the priest, the
seribe uf the law of God of heaven, shall require of you, it be done speedily.” :
