now engaged in the work of making a pattern for a large spur wheel. The wheel
in question, when east, will weigh three
tons. The peculiarity about this pattern is,
that it will be in sections,
detect that the model is not one solid piece,
‘But the advantage of Mr. Tregonning’s pattern will consist in the ability of the foundryman to draw each section by itself from
the sand, thus lessening the chance of spoiling the perfect impress of the wheel to be
cast. The handling of such large patterns
as this wheel would require, were it in one
piece, is attended with risk and frequently
involves the. work of moulding a second
time or even a third time. This risk is reduced to the minimum by Mr. Tregoning’s
model.
The wheel, when finished wil] come to one
of the-mines at Nevada City~and will be
cast by thé Miners’ Foundry of that place.
It will probably be the largest casting ever
made in Nevada county. It will unquestionably prove a success, and will be a
creditable piece of work as an example’ “of
home industry.

A Good Audience Witnesses the Preduction of This Play.
The attendance at the Theater Saturday
night was larger than at any previous _ periormancé of the James Ward Company during their present engagement here, People
recognize that there is much merit in the
troupe and that the prices of admission are
very moderate, being within the reach of
all. The bill for Saturday night was the
sensational drama, ‘‘The Streets of New
York.” It was presented in avery creditable manner and gave entire satisfaction,
Mr, Ward as Badger appeared to good advantage and gave a good interpretation of
the character, his comedy genius having full
opportunity in many portions of the play,
as well as his splendid powers of character
delineation. Joseph Highland filled the
part cf Gideon Bloodgood in the best manner, and Lorimer Johnston, as_Paul, sustained that character well, . The latter also
appeared asCaptain Fairweather. John
Pierson’s Mark Livingstone was very commendable, while George Hernandez, ‘as Dan,
was extremely funny and kept the audience
in the best hunior by his comicalities, He
. does well wherever cast, although his forte
iscomedy. J.J. Sambrook took the part
of Puffy and was very good. Miss May
Powers as Alida, the haughty daughter of
banker Bloodgood, sustained the character
quite excellently, and Miss Lillie Elliott as
Lucy deserves full credit. © Miss L. O’Connor made a very good Mrs, Puffy. She
also took the part of Mrs, Fairweather,
