During the past few years many hunters have been in the habit of disregarding these notices, or’ treating them lightly as though they were more of the nature of scare-crows put up to keep the boys out, than a firm, order ‘to all persons nof to trespass upon the. prémises. It has frequently happened that careless hunters have shot and killed or badly injured valuable horses, colts, cows or~other stock.’ But this was not always done by persons who.had no. permission to hunt on the law rather than go to the trouble of asking the privilege of hunting within the enclosures,. If a person is refused admission he miust-remain outside. It is a just law, as every property owner should have the right to say who he will allow to hunt through his fields and pastures, Of course where there is no enclosure there is no restraint, and in ouropivion a barb-wire fence that is stretched through the unbroken woods for from a half mile to two or three terran won considerableapplause, “J, J; . miles,and_taatonedto-trees-most. of—the Hyland took the dual part of -Al and Tom McClelland, twin brothers, and treated his auditors to several choice bits of heroic acting, He is deserving of much praise ‘for way, should not be regarded as a proper enclosure, and hunters should have the same right to hunt game in such places as though the two or three wires were not PIKE CITY ITEMS, — The Place Alive and Improvements to Property Being Made. His Comments on Various Acts of the State Legislature. In a recent communication to the Downhieville’Messenger, Senator Tirey L. Ford explains various matters of legislation which affects Sierra county. To a degree the same explanations would apply to Nevada county. We quote a few paragraphs from Senator Ford’s article, -The session’ of ’93 (Mr. Ford’s first term as Senator) placed hydraulic mining in its proper 4nd legitimate light before the people of this State and laid the foundation for a fund of a half-million dollars for the purpose -of constructing restraining works. Congress, however, by its failure to meet the generous offer of the Legislature has, so far, deprived us of the benefit of the fund thus sought to be created. the case wherein they were issued, be set down for trial-within that-time, The general fee bill, which has the effect of decreasing the amount of fees paid to county officials, as well as the amount paid into the county treasury by its.officials, was urged and supported iby the representatives of the more populous and wealthy counties, and, as such representatives far out-numbered those from less favored counties, the passage of the bill could not be avoided. fected township officers and the minor county eflicers in Sierra and Plumas counties, was obviated by amendments which your represtiitatives secured to the County Ox might as well try to stem the rapids of Niagara, as to expect perfect health while a Scrofulous taint exists in the blood.
