Mrs. Rowen Puts an End to Her Existence. ‘‘Let-me alone, I wau’t to die.** The above sad words were uttered by Mrs. Johanna Rowen of Mooney Flat, this county, Monday night after she had taken a dose of strychihine -with suicidal intent, says the Union. Her sufferings were intense, and loving ones failed to divine the cause until the aged woman’s own lips expressed that she had taken the deadly poison to end her existence. She protested against summoning a doctor, and begged that sne might be permitted to die. Dr. Holbrooke of Smartsville was called at once, however, but his skill failed to revive the dying woman and two hours from the time Mrs. Rowen took the fatal drug her prayer was answered and she was called home. Mrs. Rowen had brooded ' ever domestic troubles until she became weary of life and determined to destroy herself. It seems that her sun James, lessee of the well-known Union ranch, and his wife did not get along well together asa result. Mrs. Rowen left her husband and went to live with her parents. Mrs. Rowen, Sr., who committed suicide, so a gentleman informed the reporter yesterd:y, thought she would have to take care of herson’s children. She is said to have remarked. that she had raised one family and did not intend to raise another. Purely-vegetable, sugar-coated, easy to'take and quick to assimilate, this is the idea: family medicine—the most popular, safe, and useful aperient in pharmacy. Mrs. M. A. BROCKWELL, Harris, Tenn.,. says: “Ayer’s Cathartic Pills cured me of sick headache and my husband of neuralgia. We think there is No Better Medicine,, . and have induced many to use it. : “ Thirty-five years ago this Spring, I was run down by hard work and a succession of had been placed there for killing rats. She/ went to her daughter’s house near by and died under the circumstances above related. Coroner Daniels was summoned to Mooney Flat yesterday morning, where he held an inquest.. Mining at French Corral Very Active at Present. =. +. -: If appearances count for much, the Ridge section of Névada county wili be the scene of renewed activity and prosperity during the coming summer. Early one morning last week a Grass Valley Union representative left fora trip to North San Juan via colds, which made me so feeble that it was an effort for me to walk. I consulted the doctors, but kept sinking lower until I had given up all hope of ever being better. Happening to be in a store; one day, where Medicines were sold, the proprietor noticed my weak and sickly appearance, and, after a few questions as to my health, recommended me to try Ayer’s Pills. I had little faith in these or any other medicine, but concluded, at-last, to take his ~ vice and try. a box. Before I had used them all, I was very much betté?, and two boxes cured me. T am now 80. years old; but I believe that if it had not been for Ayer’s Pills, I should have been in my grave long ago. I buy 6 boxes every year, which make 210 boxes up — te this time, and I would no more be without them than without bread."—H. H. __Ingraham, Rockland, Me. AYER’S PILLS Prepared by Dr. J.C. Work on the property owned by R. Ll. Thomas, Sheriff D. F. Douglass and L. P. Schmidt, near Birchville, is going abead steadily and the prospects are very encouraging. ! 2: — Two Runaways. Pedro Ozalli left his span of males standing in the yard at the New York Hotel last evening. The drumming in front of the armory frightened the mules and they ran away down Commercial street. In front of Jackson's grocery store the runaway team collided with a hitching post. ‘This frigi.tened the horses attached ,to.the Grass Valley bus and they ran’ away. Crossing the aes Plaza the bus struck a wagon that had been left in front of Barton’s blacksmith shop for repairs and made ‘it necessary for more i repairs. The bus was not damaged.
