the Thirteénth Annual Encampment.

written in German text, with illaminated colors and with the Grand Army
emblem in the upper left-hand corner

edrums, etc., in the lower right-hand:
corner. A neatly executed border surwounds the resolutions. They are engrossed on parchment paper and en
ailosed in a recessed live-oak frame,
which measures 2 feet 10 inches by 8
feet Siimebes. They read thus:
“The Department of California and
Nevada, Grand Army of the ‘Republic:
holding in. grateful remembrance its
visit to Salinas City on the occasion of
the Thirtieth Annual encampment, on
April 21,22 and 23, 1897, unanimously
adopted the following resolutions to be
engrossed and sent to the Board of;
iEdwcation of that city:
(Resolved, That this Encampment
tis yileased to express to the teachers and
pupilsef the schools of Salinas City its
appreciation of the part taken by them
ja.1ihe public parade of April 22, 1897.
That by :their action the pupils of these
schools exhibited a sentiment. of padriotic unspimity creditable to themobject lesson of their loyalty; which
abould remaia unforgotten during
their lives. s

impressive ceremony of ‘Saluting the
Flag,” as presented by the juvenile class

Yesterday afternoon’s train brought

this afternoon. Those who came yesterday afternoon, and constituted the
main division, were welcomed by a

at the station and cheered them to the
echo as the cars pulled in. Allthe bell:

Last evening most of the delegates
took things easy after their jong journey. They viewed the sights of the
mining. metropolis, congregated 4a the
houses and private homes of ‘the city,
bullads, swapped war experiences, renewed old friendships, electioneered
and cancused. The G. A. R.° Department Council, which is the governing
body of the veterans bet ween sessions,
met and closed-up the-year’s business
