\< . 2WANAGER’S REPORT.
J herewith submit my annual report for
the year ending December 3lat, 1895:
Gross earnings : for 1895, $103,460.89 ;
gross earnings for 1894, $98,794.89 ; increase
of earning over preceding year, $4,666.
Total amount of expenses including taxes
and interest on bonds for 1895, $104,854.03;
total amount of expenses, 1894, $102,520.95;
increase of expenses over preceding year,
$2,333.08. oe
The expenditures for the year include new
turntable framed at Colfax; stonewall, sidewalk and crossing in front of. James and
Maddrill lots purchased.last year ; and the
purchase of six bonds of the old 8. per cent
issue. This purchase was made in order to
complete the retirement of ten bonds, making the new issue of 7 per cent bonds $250,000 in lieu of the old issue of $260,000 of 8
per cent bonds, which ‘new. issue has been
completed since December 31, 1895, and
the old issue.retired; The expenses of the
road were.materially increased by the extra
number of traitis found necessary to run in
order to accommodate the travel.. At the
conclusion of the year, viz: on January 1,
1896, we reduced the passanger fare on the
line making the same $1.50 in lieu of $1.75
between Colfax and Grass Valley, and $1.75
in lien of $2.20 between Culfax.and Nevada
City, with proportionate reduction on -balance of road; and it is the intention to
made further reductions in the near. future.
We are having a new gurvey made between
Chicigo Park and Gables trestle in order to
shorten the line some two miles between
those points, and it is the intention to build
said line soon, and avoid Greevhorn bridge,
You Bet tunneland Shelby’s trestle.
The mining outlook is very good, the
population of Nevada ‘county is increasing
and I think the prospects of business on the
road for the ensuing year are very bright.
Respectfully submitted,
Joun F. Kipper.
