—
The Salvationists Hold a Novel Trial at
Grass Valley,
The Salvationists drew’ a large audience
Tidings, ‘by their novel arraignment of the
Devil, Who was placed on trial before judge
and jury for the great offenses of which he
is guilty in this world of sin, A mock
called in the usual style, <whg) solemnly
promised to tell the truth, aif“nothing but
the trath. The case of the people, or the
prosecution, was conducted by a member of
the Army corps, and the Devil was not left
without his attorney, who, although he was
nominally the friend of the prisoner at bar,
seemed to add strength to the prosecution
by many. of his questions and the answers
elicited. The witnesses told how the
» Devil had led them into divers temptations
before they joincd the army, and made so
‘strong a pase against his Satanic Majesty
that he.was ‘convicted by unanimous vote
of the-jury.
* A feature in the case was the recital of
an original poem by John Welch of Colfax,
entitled ‘The: Hell*bound rain, ” which
made quite an impression, . \,
The object of the meeting was to liquidate

disappointing those who attended in anticipation of seeing something elaborate. The
reason of the lack of fine costumes: may be
due to the shyness of the people hereabouts

for costumes when there is nothing to be derived from the investment but a little praise
and sd-called glory. The majority of the
members of the masculine sex preferred to

plain civilian attire to being burdened down
with fine toggery, and the larger portion
of the opposite sex attended in the usual

Detective Thacker, for holding up himself,
Sheriff Jones and detectives have been

reason of having found no one who saw men

their attention was given to Cole. The
officers took Cole out on the road and had

over the road very soon after Cole, but she
had not seen any men on horseback. Finally
Detective Thacker went to Cole and
told him plainly that he himself was the
robber and the best thing he could! do would
be to confess and tell who else was in it,
After considerable pursuasion he thought of
the matter favorably, and confessed it all,

Deafness Cannot be Cured
By local-applications, as they ~cannot
reach the diseased portion of the ear, There
is only one way to cure Deafness, and that is
by constitutional remedies, Deafness is
caused by an inflamed condition of the
Mucous lining of the -Eustachian Tube.
When this tube gets inflamed you have a
rumbling sound. of imperfect hearing, and
when it is entirely closed Deafness is the
result, and unless the inflammation can be
taken out and this tube restored to its normal condition, hearing will be destroyed forever ; nine cases out of ten are caused by
catarrh, which is nothing but an inflamed
condition of the mucous surfaces,
We will give One Hundred Dollars for
any case of Deafness (caused by catarrh)
that cannot be cured by Hall’s Catarrh Cure,’
