The Smartsville correspondent of the
Appeal says:
The Smartsville baseball club went
to Pleasant Valley last Sunday to play
the boys of that district. The game
was almost too one-sided to be interesting. The Pleasant Valley boys
should do some little practicing before
challenging a club like Smartsville’s.
Our home club undoubtedly became a
little careless and as a matter of courtesy allowed the valley boys to get.
away with 12 runs while Smartsville
made ascore of 47. Dan Slattery of
Smartsville umpired the game.

believe that the Spanish fleet may go
to the Pacific coast. Its concentration
at Cape Verde is in harmony with this
idea. The coast is open to raids by
which terrible damage might be done.
Today’s Prize.
Key West, April 22—The fitst prize
taken by the United States from Spain
is the Spanish merchantman Bnena
Ventura, bound from &4 Mississippi
port to Rotterdam with a load of lumber.

An Attack on Woodford.

22.— Woodford reached the frontier at
8a m. after an exciting experience. An
attempt was made by the police to
capture Consul Molino, a member of
the U: 8. Legation, on the ground that
he was a Spunish subject. The presence
of mind of Woodford saved him.At Valladoli the train bearing Woodford. was stoned and several guards
were called ont with drawn swords to
guard it. Woodford slept through the
trouble.

Leg Broken by a Cave.
