The committee appointed Wednesday evening at the 4th of July meeting to goto Grass Valley and extend an Invitation through their Board of Trade to the citizens of Graes Valley to come up and join with us in celebrating the Anniversary of Iodependence, went to that city last evening to the number of twenty and were cordially received. B. 8. Rector informed the Board thatthe delegation had come a8 a committee representing ‘the ‘. Chamber of Commerce and citizens of Nevada City, in an endeavor to ar-} Prange for a joint Fourth of July ‘celebration in Nevada City. He told of the good feeling which would result therefrom. ; Judge J. M. Walling said that Nevada extended Grags Valley a “warm, cordiul, fraternal invitation” to join with her, and stated that the committee would take it up on themselves to guarentee a reciprocal deal for 1908, if they would join with us in the coming celebration, I.. Lindley, George Legg, Gus Fischer, J. M. Hadley, S. Lee Leiter and Fred-E Brown made remarks to the same effect, Mayor Clinch of Grass Valley said ‘be personally favored ‘the idea of a joint celebration, but he believed it was the disposition of the Board to calla mass meeting to consider the question, rather than vote directly as a body. Elam Biggs was also in favor of a joint celebration, but did not think it proper that the Board should take it upon themselves. W. E. Parsons then addressed the chair briefly, and presented the follow: fog resolution: *“*Whereas, The citizens of Grass Valley bave been invited to essist in celebrating the nation’s birthday at Nevada Oity; and “Whereas, The memters of the Board of Trade believe that it is to the best interests of the county that a closer relationship should exist be{tween the cities of Nevada and Grass Valley; be it, therefore “Reeolved, That the Board of Trade call a meeting of the citizens of Grass Valley and request them to consider the invitation.” The resolation was adopted. . Judge Walling seeing there was no way of securing an opinion from the Board of Trade, promised to forward a formal invitation to be considered at the mess meeting. eTbe Board decided upon next Thu: day evening, May Ist, as the date for holding the mass meeting, and the City Hall or Auditorium as the place. ‘Little Business. THE GREAT DELIVERBR FROM The Pestial Is Being Celebrated This Week. ‘The Jewish Feast of the Passover began last Monday night and will be Continued by reformed members. of the Hebrew religious organizations orthodox Jews until next Tueeday night. 4 The Passover, as explained by the Pentateach, is the eurvival of the re ligious ceremony with which the Jews were wont to open the harvest season. No. one tasted the new gr:in till the first sheaf had been presented to Jehovah, and then all bastened to enjoy the new blessings of thé divine goodness by eating unleavened cakes without waiting for the tedious pros cess of formenting the dough. This natural usage bec:ms fixed in custom and a new significanve was added to it by a reference to the exodus of the Jews from Egypt. As tradition ran, the people in their hacty depart ure had no time to leaven their dough already in the bogis. The two elements of thankfulness io the harvest and of grateful remembrance of their deliverance from bondage went fairly well together. Daring this festival, orthodox Jews eat only unleavened bread. The festival will be brought toa close Monday night by reformed Jews by a liberal spread at home to which even strangers in distress will be welcome. Money Put Up. Los Ancezs, April 24—Jas. J.
