The undersigned in hie humbleness

G. V. Costello presented the following resolatioa:
Wuereas it has been rumored around
onthe streets, and has come to the
knowledge of the Grand Parlor that
certain Grand Officers of this Order,
to-wit: Past Grand Presidents Flint,
Ryan and Greeley, and Grand Trustee
Zalala went to Grass Valley last Tues-day and while at dinner there partook
-of certain imported delicacies and eat:ables wholly unknown to the rank and
file of the Order, to-wit: frogs a la es
pa quole, terrapin stew, a la Maryland,
and baked humming birds, and
Waeseas, the members of the Order
of Native Sons can not: afford a
‘steady diet of frogs, terrapin, humuming birds, and continue to lead honest and virtuous lives, und are forced
iby circumstances to confine themselves to meager diet above set forth;
and ‘
WuHereas, such conduct on the part
of the Grand Officers is impressive of
the great principles of equalities and
fraternity upon which our Order rests,
and especially at this timie when the
country is menaced by a foreign foe,
does their excesses meetwith our severest reprobation and is comparable
only tothe conduct of Nero who as
history informs as, while Rome was
burning played on his violin the well‘known air, “There'll bea hot time in
.the old town tonight.”
“Therefore, be it resolved that this
Grand Parlor views with alarm and
grave apprehension thé introduction
gnto the bill of fare of the Grand officers of foreign delicacies which are now
and must forever remain inaccessible
to the great majority of unmasked Native Sons, and be it further resolved
that should any Grand officer hereafter
during his term of office indulge in. Woods
any of the epicurean excesses above
named, he shall forfeit his office and
be forever debarred from holding any
office in-the gift of this order, and at
all processions he shall be deprived
of the distinction of riding in a ba-. J.B. Fargo,
rouche, and shall be compelled to
walk and carry the banner, and he
shall ba subject to such other penalties as the great principles of equality
_and fraternity may dictate.
(Signed),

' Grand Trustee Fletcher Cutler presented the following resolution which
was adopted by a rising vote :
Wuerras, There is in existence an
organization in the State known as the
Lincoln Monument League, whose object it: is to erect a monument in the
State of California commemorating the
“Patriotism, the statemanship and the
virtues of Abraham Lincoln.”
Therefore, be it resolved that the Native Sons of the Golden West recognizing the fact that such a monument
would reflect in the highest degree the
patriotism and loyalty of our beloved
State and honor its soil, do hereby
pledge our hearty good will and cooperation in sucha meritorious cause
and we do hereby recommend that the
various subordinate Parlors: through-out the State do co-operate with the
branch Jeagues in their respective communities and lend them such assistance in raising funds as in their judgment they deem advisable. ;
