OAKLAND, April 30—Power from the north fork of the
Yuba river, 140 miles from here and not far from Ne
vada City, was used yesterday to run the cars of the Tele.
graph avenue electric railroad. This is the longest transmission of electric power in the world, in which the people of
Alameda county are very much ititerested, because it means
the certain growth of manufacturing industries here. A
large delegation of gentlemen from San Francisco, representatives of the Bay Counties Power Company and corporations affiliated with it, were present at the Temescal
power house, to witness the turning on of the current for the
first regular work. The party came to Oakland‘ on the
train and were met at Seventh and Broadway by two special
cars, and nnder the escort of W. F. Kelley ot the Uakian,
Transit Company and J. A. Britton of the Oakland Gas
Light and Heat Company, they proceeded to the power
house, where they saw the power turned on. Among those
present were E. J. de Sabla Jr., president. and general manager; L. M. Hancock, general superintendent; F. M. Ray,
assistant manager.
President de Sabla states that probably on Wednesday
the power would be used to supply the people of ‘San Jose,
which will be a delivery at a distance of about 190 miles

As Told Over the Telephone.Senator John R. Tyrrell will return
tomorrow evening from a business trip
to San Francisco.
As yet nothing has been heard of
Joseph Griffiths, the pioneer who recently disappeared.
James O. Tyrrell returned last éven-—
ing from the Grand: Parlor session of
the Native Sons. George L. Jones, the
new grand trustee, will arrive this evening and a reception will be given by
the members of Quartz Parlor in hie
honor. ;
A dead female deer was found in the
neighborhood of Newtown Sunday by
Dr. John T. Jones, who happened to
be passing that way. The doe had
been killed by a volley of buckshot
and was only just through its straggles. An hour or two later when he returned ‘the doe was gone and had probably been carried away by the hunters.
Joseph Marshall of this city was
working with a circular saw at the
little mill which he operates at Newtown, Sunday. One of his shirt sleeves
got wound up in the wheels and hurled
him against the revolving blade. The
saw punctured and tore a long and
deep gash in his left breast, tearing
away the flesh and laying bare the rib
bones. The throbbing of the heart
could be plainly seen. A physician
made him as comfortable as possible.
