This ore was mostly oxidized and the ore was run over a new set of unplated copper plates. Had this same ore been put over a good set of silver plates, it would have paid $20 per ton or more. The deepest this was drained was not over 80 feet. There was eoft ground on each side of the vein, and a heavy head of water. As near as can be remembered. between $8000 and $4000 were taken out, making the total prodaction of the Big Blue $46,600, This vein runs east and west with a dip north. — The Independent mine. In 1859 this vein was discovered by a party ground sluicing
and was koown as a“blind ledge.” A men by the name of Storey worked the vein to a depth of 20 feet perpendicular to water level and took ont $9000. The ore rapping $82 per ton in free gold. After falling into the hands of the Murchbfe brothers in. 1871, they worked by hand with 6 meu, eight hour sbifts,bailing water, and took-out $7800. Afterward steam power was installed and from thet time until closed down by the burning of the works in 1875, we took out in gold bullion $77,509.74. This was at a depth of 800 feet from surface on the slope of ein, Gold prodaction: After works were erected, §$77,51974; by hand, _, $7800; by Storey, $9000.
