A copy of the Fee bill that was passed by _ the last Legislature and approved by the _ Governor is now in the hands of the County Clerk and is receiving the attention of lawyers and litigants, as many changes have been made, The followiug extracts will be of interest: : County officers must, and township may, demand the payment of all fees in civil cases in advance, The following is in regard to witnees fees: For each days actual attendance, when legally required to attend upon the Superior Court, the witness shall receive $2 per day in civil cases and $1.50 in criminal cases. Regarding mileage, for distance actually travelled, one way only, ten cents per mile, provided, however, that’ in criminal cases such per diem and mileage shall only be allowed upon a showing to the Court, by the “witness, thatthe same are necessary for the expenses of the witness in attending, and _ the Court shall determine the necessity for the same and may disallow any fees to a witness unnecessarily subpoened. The following schedule will regulate the Justice’s Court: For each days attendance upon the Justice’s Court, in civil cases only, when -legally required to attend the witness shall re: ceive $1. For each mile actually traveled, in civil casey only, in going only, the witness shall receive ten cents. He also intends having the-size of his cellar increased, as the present dimensions are al— together too inadequate for the needs of his increasing business, He will probably extend it the entire length of the building and will then have ample room for the storage of casks and boxes which he now has to find space for on the main floor, apie +-9Ge + — Train Late, "The Narrow Gauge train due here at 4:40 A, M. reached this city this morning something over an hour and a half late. The delay was caused by something going wrong on the Cenral Pacific as usual. Postmaster Calkins and his assistant waited for the arrival of the over-due train from 4:30 till after 7 o'clock in order to distribute the mail, and it not arriving up to the latter hour they returned to their hemes and made up for the loss of sleep. They have been in the habit of cleaning up once a week, usually on Saturday. Last Friday night somebody else cleaned up the sluices and it is estimated that about $40 was stolen, Suspicions are held as to who did the robbing. It is thought that the boxes have been robbed before by some one who used a silver spoon to abstract the amalgam from between the riffles, ‘as of late the clean-ups have fallen off considerably, ROS ee Getting Ready to Hydraulic. Preparations are being made to work the Polar Star mine, near Dutch Flat, by the hydraulic process. -W. F, Englebright was over there last week surveying for an impounding dam and other work that must be done before a permit to hydraulic can issue from the Debris Commission, John Spaulding is the. principal owner of the Polar Star, which in years past paid handsome dividends to the owners. With the closing of the hydraulic mines .it was: rendered a non producer, + *@e + Errors of the Typo. Typographical errors are very amusing sometimes. The addition or omission of a single letter often changes the meaning of a word or renders a whole sentence ridiculous. The Telegraph says: It appears that there is a difference in opinion about the time for fishing in thiscounty. There should not be a difference as far as the county law is concerned, for that law says that you may fish on the first of June, -and-anyone fishing be fore that time is violating the law. -The law is openly violated here and at Truckee because it is net a popular law and no one cares to enforce it, In all probability the Supervisors will, some day next week, repeal the law, and allow fishing to commence on the first of April. It has been suggested that the county be laid off in districts and thaé fishing be commenced at any date at the place where the fish are eligible to be caught. The joint committee from the fire departments of this city and Grass Valley met yesterday afternoon at the hall of Nevada. Hose Company, No. 1. Qn motion the temporary officers were made the permanent officers of the committee. : The Committee on Grounds reported that they had consulted Dr. W. C. Jones, lessee of Glenbrook Park, and obtained a refusal of the grounds, with the right’to all privileges. The corhmittee was instructed to rent the grounds on the terms offéred. The Transportation Committee reported that Manager Kidder of the Narrow Gauge Railrdad hud been seen ‘and thatihe had made a liberal offer regarding excursion rates on the day of the picnic. It was decided to fix the price of roundtrip tickets, from either Grass Valley or Nevada City, at 25 cents. Male adults will be charged 25 cents admission to the park. Ladies\who go by train will be admitted to the grounds free. All adults who go by private conveyances or other vehicles, or on foot, will be charged 25 cents admission, Children under 15 years of age will be admitted free, :, A dance platform will be erected and the charge for dancing will be 25 cents. The Secretaries were. instructed to advertise in the Nevada City Transcripr and the Grass Valley Union for bids for privileges at the grounds on the day of the pic—. nic; also for bids to build a dance platform 40x80 feet, bidders to furnish all material’ and take it back after the picnic.” For particulars see the advertisement. It was decided to appoint sub-cammittees from the two tire departments, on horseracing, foot, sack, bicycle and other racing, baseball, football, cricket, dancing, and on general games, The following committee was appointed on grounds: Ed. W. Schmidt, J. J. Hanley, J. F. Hook, Samuel Blight, D. S, Collins, W. W. Williams. It was ordered that the Chief Kngineers appoint a Soliciting Committee ot three members from each town. J.J, Jackson was elected Treasurdr of the committee. The next meeting of the committee will be held at Grass Valley on April 21st, ES Ae Struck It Rich.
