His Queer Experience With a Tramp This Morning. Tais forenoon a dirty-looking tramp, with tattered and threadbare clothes, went into George U. Gay lord’s grocery store and asked to be given some crackers and cheese. Upon being. refused he asked for some tobacco, but this also he failed to receive. He then went next door to A. lsoard’s and tried to bum a quarter or a drink, but was line of the corporate limits of Nevada City to the easterly line of the corporate limits Grass Valley, and also from the westerly line of the corporate limits of Grass Valley along the main county road leading tu Smartesville as far as the county line, with the right to maintdin switches, work to begin within one year and completed in three years, the exact route of which railroad has not yet been determined, and said petition having been by this Board. taken under: advisement; now therefore, Resolved, That whenever at any time, within six months of the date hereof, the exact route of said propesed railway is determined by proper survey, and the matter grant said franchise, subject to the following condition: that at.any time thereafter, if this Board is satisfied that said partiés do not intend tu construct said railroad, or are not prosecuting the preliminaries with reasonable diligence, this Board will* rescind and annul the order granting said franchise. By this time Gay lurd and Isoard had compareu aotes and Constable Dillon was soon on the trail of the offender, who was arrested and ‘aken before Justice Carr, where he pleaded guilty to a charge of vagrancy and was ordered to the county jail for ten-days. Dillon started for the jail with his prisoner. When the Sheriff's office was reached the tramp said he was sick and.didm:t.want to go to jail, but ought-to be taken to the County Hospital. Hej was told that he could not go there without a permit from the Supervisors, to which he replied that as the Supervisors were in session he would go and ask permission. Dillon conducted him to the Supeivisors’ rom. The tramp told his little tale ut woe in*a faltering. voice, hesitating now and then to scratch himeel! or shift hig ‘regsed ga:ments into better shape. His nervous, restless manner led one of the Supervisors tu remark: ** Why, man, you’relousy.” —** Yes,” said the fellow, ‘I know that. There was one feature at the ball ‘given by the Curly Bears Friday evening which of the party, and that was-the collection of bears shown by William Giffin. For some time past Mr. Giffin. has been cutting out the pictures of bears that have appeared in the Examiner. These he had arranged in a scrap book, each cub representing some member of, the Curly Bears or some prominent citizen who wished he could become a member. Each of the sketches was explained by an appropriate verse cr a short, pithy paragraph. It was a very funny get-up and caused much amusement. Giffin had himself caricatuied as the ‘* Curly Bear from Maryland.” ~ New Rifle Grounds.
