Word. has jast been received here from the east that the lawsuit between the bondholders and stockholders of the Nevada City quartz mine has resulted in a court decision in favor of the bondholders. The same authority states that’ work on the mine will. soon be resumed. The property, which was . formerly quite a producer and is believed to still be valuable, has been idle for a number of years aside from} what work tributers have done there. Last spring Captain Mein made a, partial examivation of the property for ‘ the London Exploration Company, and . while he was favorably impressed with . the chances of making a good mine of} it he was not willing to recommend that . Prosecution Rested After an Hour of! Damaging Testimony. ae The trial of William P. Rogers of Grass Valley, who is charged with attempting the murder of bis brother-inlaw, William H. Weeks, of San Francisco, while returning from the funeral of Mrs. Weeks, promises to be very short, says last evening’s Oakland Tri-. . bane. It required but three witnesses to establish the prosecution’s case, and after but an hour of testimony the defense commenced its case. Officer B. R. Phillips, Wylura Rogers and J. E. New York, Aug. 11:—A World special from Washington \last night says the Department of State has been formally tified by M. Cambon that he has received authority to sign ‘the protocol in behalf of the Spanish government. In diplomatic circles it is stated that the document will be drawn up today and that as soon as it is signed hostilities’ will cease. Carlists Planning an Attack. BrussELts, Aug. 11—It is claimed that at a recent meeting of the Carlist leaders it was decided to immediately take action and orders were issued for the Carlists to assemble. It is said Don Carlos will personally enter Spain next Mon. day or Tuesday and in the meantime his forces have been supplied with 180,000 rifles and ammunition. Maovrip, Aug. rrth,—An official bulletin from ‘Porto Rico says: The American forces attacked the hights of Guanamoa and the guerrila forces under Major Cervera kept up a continual fire that lasted over an hour and held their position. More Troops Going to Manila. WASHINGTON, Aug. 11—20,000 more troops will be needed to garrison the Philippines, and they are to be hastened forward.
