railroad land at fifty cents’ per ton royalty

AGRICULTURAL VS, MINERAL,
' Matter,
Hon. J, H. Neff, President of the Miners
Association, has issued. a circular letter
from which we extract the following:
The California Miners Association respectfully calls your attention to the fact
that under the existing rules and regulations of the Land Department of the
United States the Mineral Lands lying
within the limite of a railroad grant are
subject to patent to the Railroad Company
as agricultuia] land. In order tg avoid
such illegal absorption of these lands, it is
necessary to initiate proceedings in the
local Land Office during the period of newspany’s list of selections, This may be done
under the rules by the filing of a protest
All blanks should be properly
filled, then subscribe and swear to by a
notary public and then forward it to the
local land office, After you have received
due notice that a hearing iias been ordered
\"pon your protest or contest, you should
\be prepared to appear at-the local Land Office at the time which may be fixed in such
notice, aud then and there make proof that
the land involved is more valuable for -mineral than for agricultural purposes, If you
do not do so, the matter will be dismissed
and your mining cleimg be patented to the
railroad company as agricultural land. It
is suggested that the better course to pursue
is to patent your mining claim.
