About 7 o’clock this morning Earl Maurchie was leading his horge on Main street, near the bridge, on his way to Richard Noel’s blacksmith shop, when the animal shied and went over backwards into the trench, which is being dug for the drain pipe of the ineg & Shaw Cov The eut-ic-about eight feet deep, and after working around the horse for about an hourand.a-half, a derrick was erected of three poles held together with crowbar, which was sharpened at one end, and the animal hoisted.to the surface. dust as the horse reached the level of street, the derrick fell over and nght five men. knocking them down. The iron bar that was holding the derrick, struck Lewis Grieb of Rough and Ready, on the side of the head, causing 8 scalp wound an inch long and half an inch wide, and his right arm was bruised black and blue from the shonlder down. Dr. Sawyer put several stitches in the scalp and attended to Mr. Grieb’s other injuries. It was a very narrow escape for Mr. Grieb, for if be had been struck by the sharp end of the crowbar, it would have gone through his head. The About Old. O'Connor took place this morning from the family residence on Nimrod street, with services at St. Canice Catholic cbureh at 10:80 o’clock, and a requiem mass was held for the repose ot her soul. The attendance was very large, the deceased lady’s many
acquaintances being present to pay their last sad respects to a true and valued friend. Following were the pall bearers: Gus Fischer, James G. Neagle, Wm. Walters, Ed.
